This is my how I lost the weight and I am hoping it helps you. The first thing is you have to start being honest with yourself. You know you need to lose weight and you know that involves changing your eating habits and your exercise habits.

Step 1 Stop dieting. Change your relationship with food. Food is fuel. You need fats, carbohydrates, and protein and in my opinion a small square of dark chocolate almost daily. I am serious about this. I eat mostly fruits, veggies, and legumes. I do eat small quantities of meat but less often than I eat the other stuff (note this works for me not everyone). Sit down enjoy your food and be mindful of what you are eating. Log your food and log it maybe forever if you have to, I may have to I am an emotional eater! Speaking of that get the emotions in check start thinking is this bag of chips worth the guilt I will feel later just to satisfy this emotion now. Phone a friend, go for a walk but put down the emotional comfort food. Cut the processed garbage down, out whatever it is a waste of calories. Drink water and eat things with the least amount of ingredients on the package.

Step 2 Exercise consistently. Exercise does not mean go running if you hate running. Find something you love. For example I love playing racquetball with the fiancÚ. Walking, dancing, lifting weights, sports of sorts there are lots of options the point is get moving and do it daily. I do run and I strength train, I have to do the combination to lose weight.

Step 3 I have to, I will say this again, I have to, weigh myself daily. If you are someone who is prone to backsliding I recommend this contrary to what everyone tells you because I believe (I am not an expert mind you) I believe that knowing your weight fluctuations and knowing when your weight is getting out of control is very important. I swing up and down 2 lbs all of the time FYI but if it starts creeping up to 5lbs. I know it is time to check the sodium and the food log and put the brakes on where they need to be put on.


Take what you will from this I hope that it gets your gears going and will help you figure out how to get on the right path. I am not an expert this is what works for me but give it a try if you think it may give you what you are missing

    I think you have hit the nail on the head.

    I also would add that winter is a set back depending on the weather. If you feel that life is rough go for a walk or just do something to take your mind off of it but don't eat .

    It's true, the food tracker is extremely helpful. I'm very slowly loosing weight, but it mostly has to do with the way I eat. I don't really exercise, but I know I should. I guess I just haven't found the right thing for me yet. But I do try to pay attention to what I've been eating. And the weight has started to come off, very slowly, but it is.

    Thanks. it is true that what works for one might not work for you. Personally I love the food tracker and I try to do the exercise videos. We have a split team challenge in 55+ladies team and it really helps to motivate me to keep going.
