Weigh in update

Thursday, March 28, 2013

With all the feedback from my other blogs I missed my weekly weigh in update last week. So sorry this will not be a terribly insightful entry but one to keep myself accountable. My kids were here on spring break two weeks ago. We had a blast. We traveled the island. Went to movies. Went snorkeling. My kids took surf lessons. It was a really awesome week. Food wise not so great. I was sick early in the week so didn't eat much but think I made up for it once my appetite came back lol.

Last week was probably my best gym week in a while I racked up 415 fitness minutes. I had to make up for having no gym time while the kids were here. I burned over 4000 calories. I also had a lot of fun that week as well. I hung out and listened to live music at least 3-4 nights that week so again it was a good week. This week has been good too. I had a terrible food day on Tuesday went about 1000 cal over but the kicker was over 2 days I had about 12,000mg of sodium. I retain water easily for a guy so that has really set me back however all i can do is drink water and watch the sodium and my intake going forward. I waited too long to eat after a brutal workout Tuesday and I ate out so none of that helped. I am still proud of the workout though. Did an hour Body Pump class, 30 minutes elliptical and walked the 2.14 miles from work to the gym and home. So definitely proud of that.

However all of that was not enough to overcome the dreaded sodium bloat so I am up almost 3 pounds since last weigh-in. I am not terribly worried about it. I can tell I am building a ton of muscle as I am sore. I haven't been this sore in a long time so that means I am doing something right and pushing to a new level. I think I have a bit of a mental block where I can do a lot more than I "think" I can. Korina ordered some of Bob Harper's workout DVD's I am interested to give them a whirl see how I do and do something a little different. Also think I may be ready for an Insanity/P90x/Plyrometric workout. I definitely think Plyrometrics work but I am turned off by the cheesiness of the infomercial workouts. We will see. Will revisit after I try out the Bob workouts. Here are the numbers...

Starting weight 380 lbs
week 8 weight 272.4 lbs
week 10 weight 275 lbs
Difference +2.6 lbs
Total weight lost 105 lbs
lbs to goal 25 lbs

Accountability keeps coming up here. It's kind of like the bedrock we need to build on. Thank you for the example.
I see you have only 25 pounds left until your goal weight - good stuff!

Although you did gain, I'm not worried about it for you... You know the reason for the gain. Sodium. As long as you keep accountable of the sodium, it will melt right back off! No worries!

I'm glad you had a great time with the kids though!!

On another note, just a fair warning, those Bob Harper DVD's are going to kick your butt! I'm not saying you can't do it, I'm saying THEY WORK. WELL. lol

Enjoy and let us know how it went!!!!

Sounds like you had a great week with your kids but you got right back to it! I used to think sodium was not an issue with me and therefore didn't stress about it until I saw my blood pressure had creeped up a bit at the doctor's office. It is so easy to blow that recommended daily amount out of the water, even with food that's not really unhealthy in any other way. Like you said, just keep drinking the water and doing what you've been doing and that bloat weight will come right back off.

I don't currently track sodium intake but I should. May shed some light on why I'm so bloated at times.

Yep salt is a bad thing... makes me retain water too.. I can relate to you bro. Good for you to stay accountable! that is a great thing!

you'll drink lots of water and stay away from sodium and it'll go away!

Have a great week!

I have the same battle with sodium. Having pizza, or some salty things will always add a couple pounds to me. Great job on the exercise. I am going to work on the exercise thing`you are an inspiration. Glad you had a good week with your kids. That is important. Have a good Easter time.

I know what you mean about retaining water, I take on water like it's going to become scarce or something and usually need about a week for it go. Sounds like you had a blast with the kids. I saw Korina's blog about the activities so I'm sure there's no real gain there. emoticon

There will always be events that take us away from our usual routine of diet and exercise- the trick is to get right back to the ways that have been successful and not beat yourself up for it. As for the past two weeks - it sounds like it was worth everyone of those three extra pounds. It is a "live-it" not a "die-it."

It's hard to stay on track when you're out of your routine, and having fun with your kids is much more important than worrying about every bite that goes into your mouth. Sounds like you didn't do too bad though. And is sounds like most of your gain is water, so it should come off by your next weigh in. Like I keep reading on SP, it's progress, not perfection that matters! Hang in there. You're an inspiration to us all.

I'm glad you had a great time with your kids. Sounds like you did lots of cool and fun things. Somedays are better diet wise than others, but balance is key and your attitude is good.

Water weight is frustrating but I know it's temporary so it's alright. I try to drink more water and eating freggies that are water rich are actually better for eliminating salt and water than just drinking more water.

You're doing great, keep going!!

A small gain in the grander scheme of things. Like you said, a lot of sodium will inflate that number on the scale, water is approximately 7.5 lbs per gallon! I know you're not going to get over excited about the gain so there's no reason to tell you to not beat yourself up over it... you're a veteran in these trenches brother.

Have a great Easter weekend and watch that sodium!!
