My back - ouchie!

Thursday, March 28, 2013

This is not the blog I planned to write, not for yesterday or for today. I wanted to go through more of my motivational quotes. That was a fun blog!

Instead, just moving 5 boxes of paper yesterday has laid me up. I'm really not happy. I twisted/pulled the muscle that is right over the right kidney. I think I know what I did. I've done this a thousand times without getting hurt, I know how to lift. I twisted because I got my hand caught on the shelving unit next to the paper stack.

IT HURTS! Yes, I know I'm being a wimp. I came home yesterday and laid on a heating pad. I felt better by last evening. I took it easy after my new client last night (my goodness Ginger is adorable) and then came home to sleep. I thought I could work today.

The car was a killer! I made about 3 hours at work and came home. Took a vacation day for tomorrow so I don't even have to think about it. I'm figuring 3 days has to be enough. Standing or laying I'm ok, sitting is ouchie!

So I'm just veggin' out. Well see how I feel in the am. I had planned on jogging over the the lake and watching the sun rise. A day on the heating pad might let me walk it.

How about a nice Chicago get well message:

"Get Well, Or, Else!"

More seriously: discretion is the better part of valor: Make sure you don;t get back too soon to those activities that harm your back.

And stay away from the keyboard, if that requires you to sit.

Be careful! If it doesn't ease, get your kidney function checked. Could be a stone or an infection. I think we are more connected than we thought b/c my back has been hurting too and for no apparent reason! Sympathy pain? Take it easy!

I know how you feel. Yesterday I went out to clean up some yard stuff, only 20 minutes and I could feel it beginning. I think the damp cool air is just aggravating my pain. So I stayed off the treadmill and "rested" again yesterday. I woke today feeling better, so off to the treadmill as soon as I am done reading the last of my tabbed blogs.

Try alternating ice and heat, that sometimes helps me. emoticon emoticon

I hope you feel up to your sunrise tomorrow - even if you have to walk instead of run. If not, there's always sunset. Feel better.

You're not being a wimp., hon. You have an injury. Any injury to the back is painful and debilitating. If you injured it, though, I would recommend ice for the first 48 hours, then heating pad. Heat right now will only add to the inflammation. That's from my experience of various back injuries through the years. Meanwhile, honey, I am praying for you! Hugs, Karen

P.S. That would be ICE "every 20 minutes on/2 hours off" for 48 hours. Then do same with heating pad. :)

I did that last year, five days before the Warrior Dash. I was so disappointed I could not do it since my kids were doing it with me, and my ex. I would have loved the chance to show him up!

It took me five days of two Aleve a day for that to ease up. I did the heating pad the first couple days and then sat with an ice pack each evening. I had just started a new job so I couldn't take off. It was an excrutiating 40-min drive to and from work for sure.

Enjoy the rest while you can get it!

I hope you feel better soon!

don't even think at running now. you need a myorelaxant and some anti inflammatory. but the pain is given by the contracted muscle. and search on internet for some mild back exercises for lumbar sciatica. I had a herniated disk in the summer . it took me 3 weeks until I could move properly and 3 months until the pain disappeared completely.
