Forgot this in my last post. It probably deserves itsí own post anyway.
Every Wednesday a group of us go out to a local sports bar and play trivia. I met most of these guys when my son was in scouts and have known them for upwards of 10 years. We always have a great time. We have been camping with each other, been on extended trips together and rarely have there been any problems. I got lucky since the group ahead and behind my son are not as compatible with what I like to do, but these guys are my age and we have the same sense of humor, which is sort of scary. But we enjoy the hanging out and drinking a few beers.
Back in January I stopped going. Mainly because I tend to drink and eat more than is healthy and while I wasnít saying I was done, I needed the time away to concentrate on developing better eating habit and cut back on the beer. So, I quit going. Lately I have started going back every few weeks. I eat before I go so I am not tempted by the food. I only drink a couple of mixed drinks or diet soda. I know, diet soda isnít the best but I always get a glass of water as well. Some things I am not ready to give up yet.
Anyway, I went last night. Yesterday was my rest day and I hadnít seen most of them for a few weeks. So one of the guys comes up right after having left the gym. We got to talking and he said he joined the gym on Sunday. He said the big motivator was a post I put on facebook Friday congratulating myself for losing 50 pounds. He just turned 43 he said so he was already feeling he needed to do something. It was the first friend I had told what my weight had climbed too, and it felt good to say it.
Sad part is, I still weigh more than him. I am glad someone else in my group is working on losing weight as well. And to be told I was part of the reason, made me feel pretty good.
