The "perfect" gift is always a challenge

Thursday, March 28, 2013

So April 5th is my DIL's birthday and we love her so I wanted to get the "perfect" gift. Do I get her some spa time to relax, do I get her some "girl clothes", do I get a gift card for a nice dinner out with her DH???? Oh what to get. Then I started thinking about what is important to her. She became a runner and we are very proud of her. She has done 2 marathons and runs on a regular basis. Her mother is very overweight and doesn't support her at all. She is constantly telling her that it is dangerous and she will hurt herself. But she is very responsible and doesn't want the weight problem her mother has that she might inherit. So she took up running. I think she is doing awesome and is being a good example for her two children which I love! Especially since the granddaughter has a tendency to be a bit "chunky". So I researched things that had to do with running and got her a runner's jacket that got good reviews and running tights that also got good reviews. I mean everyone likes a new outfit for your chosen exercise. I think this will let her know how much I support her and her efforts running and staying in shape. I do hope she likes them.

On another note, was surprised at the scale today as it said, talk about having some cushion pounds for a treat!!! We are going out with friends on Saturday so I will be ready to chow down.
Hope all my sparks buddies are doing just great.
Have a terrific day.

Come April 5, I know your DIL is going to be delighted with the love and thoughtfulness you put into her gifts, Sallie :) It's fortunate that she views her mother's physical condition as an important lesson for herself and is so proactive in staying fit and healthy. She will deeply appreciate your warm support emoticon

And CONGRATULATIONS!! are in order for the generous "cushion" you've managed to achieve, despite lots of delicious meals lately! You are an important lesson to ALL of us that yes, there is life after weight loss - when we maintain. And it's a great life, isn't it? Here's to good times...and especially, to good health! emoticon - Susan

Careful with that chow down, you still want the title of heathy to go with the chow because then your cells smile and you are radiant instead of pasty. As far as the present goes, I think it is very thoughtful and it will be a great treat for your DIL. Good thinking. Congrats.

Obviously, the mother is in denial and embracing excuses. I think you did hit the perfect gift spot on with the appropriate gift and positive reinforcement! God job, Sallie!

Sallie , that is a most fitting gift. The dinner gift would have been nice, but then it is over, the spa gift would have been great ,but then you would long for more . The running jacket & running tights she will still have for a long time to come. Plus it will mean a lot to her, you are giving something to her that she loves to do. Great choice!!!! emoticon

What a wonderful well thought out gift that will certainly show her you're with her all the way. Shame her mum can't be supportive though.
I love the way you think of your cushion. I just average out my calorie range if I over indulge and know now how my weight will fluctuate a little. I'm not too bothered these days as I've been maintaining since March 08, the goal is not skinny, the goal is strong!

Have a great day Sallie emoticon
