Hey! I'm in SD! We should meet up! :)
Definitely rent a car....although we have a lot of public transportation, it is not widely used like in other cities. And if you get lost, you'll most likely end up somewhere beautiful, so it's not all bad!
The Safari Park is very cool, and the Zoo is , well I guess great, its just a Zoo...But then again, growing up with all these things. maybe we don't appreciate them like we should! LOL
That's Memorial Day weekend, so there should be a lot going on around town. The beach speaks for itself! :)
I personally wouldn't go to Mexico, there is an outlet mall right before the last US exit, that can get you pretty much what Mexico has to offer, without bringing your passport.
Send me a Spark Mail if you want more info and I'll give you my # so we can meet up!
You'll love it here! emoticon

My brother lives in San Diego and I am so wanting to visit. I would definitely check out trip advisor's website as they have lots of travel advice on there.

Have a great time! I'll call my brother and try to post back to you.

Never been to San Diego, but... do not rent a car in an unfamiliar city if there is any other way. Major hotels usually are adept at arranging transportation to major sites and facilities. You will see more if you worry about the logistics less.

If I came to San Diego Scripps Oceanographic Institute and the HMS Surprise would be on my must-see list. But that's me. Have fun, girlie (still cannot believe you are a grandmother - do something nice for your photographer!)
