Doctor Report

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

It's been a while since I've been on to give updates. After coming home from having the thyroid biopsy done, my pain level escalated to the point a pain block became necessary. So, it was another 2 hour drive back to the city for another doctor appointment! Thankfully, Dra, Haylock was able to get me in before she left that day for her Holy Week vacation. One and a half hours and 10 injections sites later, I was done. For some strange reason, Dra Haylock seemed to think that stress set off. this round of pain!!! Who would think that having your purse stolen and having a biopsy within two weeks could possibly cause stress?

The biopsy results were in and so on Monday it was ANOTHER trip back to the city. Keep in mind that we are not talking about nice interstate highways here. There are more potholes than there are pavement and the ride is not nice, especially when recovering from a pain block. But, that's another story. Very thankfully, the nodule is benign!! I will be taking thyroid replacement medication for 3 months, when blood tests will be done, then at 6 and 12 months another ultrasound will check the size of the nodule. If it has not decreased in size, then we'll look at surgery. But, for now, things are stable, the doctor and I are hoping the medication will help with metabolism, weight loss, glucose and cholesterol control.

Really sorry the pain was SO intense--but thrilled to hear that the biopsy came back benign! Was there ever such a beautiful word! Thank God.

And yes, thyroid replacement can work wonders for weight control. Praying good things for you in the coming months.

Glad you are back! I missed that you were having a biopsy, happy to hear it was benign. I had a friend that went of replacement therapy and it works wonders, she lost like 20 lbs in the first couple of months and stop lossing hair. She said it completely changed her life. So I wishing you the best.

What a relief. I'm so glad they'll be able to manage the thyroid and pain.

I went through a similar situation back at Thanksgiving after a mammogram . . . .with similar results.

So happy that things are stable and that the nodule is benign. I have battled a low thyroid for years,so I know the problems associated with that. You will do better now that your doctor knows what the situation is and can prescribe some medication.

Hugs,
Evelyn
