Poor naked wretches, wheresoe'er you are,
That bide the pelting of this pitiless storm.

Actually that's enough of King Lear. I'm not naked, in fact I wore my new frock to work today (it's now officially an almost-new frock cos I've worn it eight times) but the weather makes it seem so. Amazing the way the wind whips round your nether regions when you're wearing a frock.

Have I mentioned the weather before? Oh yes, last blog and a lot of you seem to think you are worse off than I am. This, I am not prepared to countenance. Nobody suffers like I do. I'm like Lily wossname in 'What Katy did at school', a real Mrs Gummidge. Or Anne Eliot's sister Mary whose coughs are worse than anybody else's. Well this morning I read a long range weather forecast and 'they' say it's going to be cold until the end of April.

Let me repeat that for anyone whose brain refused to process it:

It's going to be cold until the end of April.

We'll just have a pause while everyone absorbs that.

And I'll just pass round a box of tissues. I really got a sinking feeling, an UnSparkly feeling when I read that, this morning.

There, I've said it for everyone.

On Friday, Stonecot and I are hiking in Epping Forest. With gritted teeth.

Cold. Brrrr. We retired to Arizona to stay away from the freezy skid stuff. Temp high to day is to be in the high 80's F. Love it. I do NOT look forward to our summer highs in the 115 to 120 F range.

I hear ya! And I wear my cotton yoga capri's under my frocks to keep my nether regions warm (As well as covered, if perchance I was to faint dead away whilst in public. Not that I've ever fainted or been prone to fainting,)...but it turned cold here yesterday after I had already locked furnace down to 65 deg F on Sunday because it was so warm. I didn't want to reprogram it for summer air conditioning yet, as it's a bit of a pain to reprogram. Sure enough, it turned cooler yesterday, and not to warm up until the weekend.

Icy icicles clung to the underneath of a bridge on my parkrun this morning.

Contrast that with the beautiful sight of crocus spelling out the word "peace" by the Peace Pagoda at Willen Lake, Milton Keynes (sorry I haven't got a picture of that, I was too busy running)

You'll have to see my blog to have a look at a picture of the icicles, and one of the Peace Pagoda!

Even though it's cold, I've turned down the furnace and opened some windows to get some fresh air through the house. I think it's time, though, to either close the windows again or put on a sweater.

I hate the cold too. Hopefully your walk isn't to muddy. Those suck sometimes.

Love your blog. I hate the cold, too. I am back in thigh high snow and a road that is muddy ruts when the temps agree to go above freezing. Every day I have to say I am EMBRACING this or else I'll go nuts. Enjoy your hike. I need to figure out where I can hike that won't have me sinking over my boots in either snow or mud! No frocks for me!

Yes, spring has only come as far as the calendar is concerned. I have a cold again. My nose is running better than I can. emoticon

Sorry about the weather. I hope your hike with STONECOT is fun. Be careful not to break any teeth while they are chattering with the cold.

It'll be cold here at least that long too.

2 weeks ago, I walked the pups while wearing shorts, a T, and sandals (& boy, did they look funny wearing sandals"!). Another cold snap - bundled up in 3 shirts and long johns, the chihuahua stuck inside my jacket for most of the walks. This week, lighter long pants. Next week, up to the high 70's, then crashing back into the 50's for the highs. Sheesh! Our average latest freeze is 22 April.

I hope it warms up for your Friday hike. Definitely would not want it to be cold until the end of April either! Your blogs are so entertaining! Love them and your sense of humor.

Well, I hate to brag but our temps are getting to the 60's the next few days plus no rain is predicted for Easter Sunday. It usually rains really hard for the Saturday egg hunt but not this year. Last Saturday there was an indoor hunt upstairs at our local grocery store. I am glad I didn't decide to go there to shop. My friend told me about it. Downstairs at the back section where the store is there are vendor booths set up and they sell all sorts of neat and not-so-neat stuff so I got there often. I used to sell there but it was too much work hauling stuff back and forth. Now the booths are all sectioned off so stuff stays there all the time.

    Have a great Easter!

    So sorry you are COLD.
I avoid long range weather forecasts...

If I don't like what they say,,,
    I get bummed out,
if I like what they say
    and it doesn't happen....
    I get bummed out.

Your hate of the cold got me to wondering....
Does it get really hot, and or, humid in your neck of the woods?

In my world I am grateful for most any kind of weather. You may ask why, and that would be, because it gives us something to jointly complain about without hurting anyone's feelings. (Except maybe the weather forecaster; but they are just best guessing at best and not really liable for what the weather actually is.)

I think this is my blog for the day.

Here in the states, they were contemplating hanging the groundhog that predicted an early spring.

I'm with them all the way to the gallows.

I seem to remember the weathermen saying back in December that we'd have this! Doesn't, make it any easier!
I hate this cold. Enjoy your walk Anne, wrap up emoticon

"What if I were siezed in some dreadful way, and unable to ring the bell?"

    Name that literary whiner.

I'm with you. Cold until the end of April is simply unacceptable, something must be done, and since you're so motivated, I elect you. I have no idea how you are going to bend Mother Nature to your will, but you have skill in herding cats, so I feel my faith in your abilities is not misplaced. Carry on!

I can remember being in London on June 1 and it was really cold. We had bought light jackets. Midweek it was sweltering. Go figure. It will finally get nice even if it is for only a few weeks.

If we all concentrate very hard and send our chants into cyberspace, April will be warm! It's worth a try, anyway.
