Jesus, the Good Shepherd

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

This lesson we will continue on with our series, Portraits of Christ with studying the Good Shepherd.

Key Text: John 10:1-16; See John 10:11, 14-15

Key Thought: He watches over the flock with infinite care and gives His life for the sheep.

This study will cover the topics of Christ as Shepherd, Providing, Tender, Sacrificial, Risen, and Welcoming the Wanderers.

We serve a faithful “Shepherd” who calls us all by name; He is our Good Shepherd who gave His Life for us. I invite you to come and get to know this “Good Shepherd” our Savior who came to give us life abundant, filled with the goodness of the Lord!

Devotional:

Good Shepherd as “Provider”

Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Good Shepherd as “Tender”

Isaiah 40:11 He tends the flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young.

Good Shepherd as “Sacrificial”

John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

Good Shepherd as “Risen”

Hebrews 13:20 May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep.

Good Shepherd as “Welcoming the Wanders”

1 Peter 2:25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Good Shepherd as “Crowning the Faithful”

1 Peter 5:4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

Revelation 7:17 For the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd; He will lead them to springs of living water and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

God’s People are His Sheep

John 10:14 I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me…

Christ, the Good Shepherd, tenderly calls you by name; He invites you today to get to know Him. What will be your response to His Calling?

Closing Thoughts

To re-cap our study we have looked at Christ as the “Good Shepherd” who watches over His Sheep with infinite care; and gave His life for His Sheep.

Jesus our Shepherd is our Provider, Our Tender, Our Sacrificial Lamb, Our Risen Savior, Who Welcomes the Wanderer Back, Who Crowns the Faithful, Who Leads us to Living Springs of Water, Who Knows Us, and Who Calls us all by Name.

Christ, our Good Shepherd who tends to His Sheep; who is Faithful; who gave His life for His Sheep…

What more could we ever need. With Jesus the Good Shepherd, our lives have been made complete! Have you invited the Shepherd in?
