What to do?

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

So I get on the scale this morning and it says I gained 3 pound. My jaw immediately hit the floor. I did eat girl scout cookies over the weekend when I had a headache and was laying in bed but not 3 pounds worth of cookies. So I got to thinking what am I doing differently. Well I have started doing 30 minutes of hand weight/body weight circuit training 3 to 4 times a week. I want to be tone when I lose weight but I think I am gaining to much muscle while trying to lose. Not sure what to do! I really enjoy the circuit training. I like how I feel after. My muscles are tired but in a good way. Not sure how to balance losing weight while gaining muscle and not get frustrated with the scale at the same time.

I have been doing 10 minutes of hand weight upper body circuits, 10 minutes of crunches, reverse crunches, etc. and 10 minutes of lower body abduction, bridges, mule kicks, etc. When I go on vacation over the summer I want to look tone. I may not be skinny by June but I want to look in shape at least. Sadly my scale put me back in the 190's again. UGHH! This mornings workout was 35 minutes on the treadmill and 25 minutes of circuit training as I was running out of time and could not get 5 more minutes in. Tomorrow is my last chance workout for the Biggest loser challenge but sadly I don't think it is going to reflect a loss on Friday. Tomorrows workout plan is 45 minutes of elliptical and 30 minutes of zumba and anything else I have time to throw into the day.

My husband is retiring from the military in early June and I really wanted to lose 20 by then. Not sure if that is going to happen but I am going to try. It would be nice to be 170 by then. However that would be like 1.5 pounds a week to lose and I am already having trouble losing a single pound a week. At least I will be tone by June! That would give me 3 full months of circuit training/toning. Maybe by then I will lose crazy inches!

I weigh myself in the mornings, naked, after using the restroom but before I eat anything. That way I know I'm taking out a lot of variables that could affect the outcome. Just be patient, it will start melting away sooner or later. You got this.

Dont get frustrated I agree with AKATHLEEN54 doing weights you may be holding on to water. I would keep up with your routine because doing circuit training will aid in weight loss more than anything your body burns more calories when doing weight training. I am sure you will see a difference over time and it will pay off. Keep doing what you are doing because you are rocking it with the exercise!!

Try not to be affected by the scale... it is not always a true indicator or what your body is doing. Did you weight right after a workout? If you are doing intense exercises the number on the scale may be more a sign that your muscles are recovering and you are holding on to more water weight. I'm sure that the number is not actual weight gain. It sounds as though you are doing everything right.... and I"m SURE you did not eat 3lbs worth of GS cookies. Do you overall feel better? Do your clothes fit you better? Try to concentrate on the non-scale victories for now and eventually the scale will reflect your efforts. Hang in there!! emoticon
