The battle against sugar

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Since starting this program in earnest about six weeks ago I have been doing really well. This week with the added stress of caring for my rapidly declining mother I have noticed more cravings for sugar and sweets, and a higher concentration of my calories at dinner time. :( I need to make some changes, that is clear.

Wondering how I can change these behaviors easily.... I started the stop sugar craving ps challenge, am going to go exercise when I finish writing this, and will allow myself some small treats ow and then. Feeling sad and miserable, but don't want to get off track.

It is good that you have identified what your triggers are. I usually keep Edy's sugar free fruit bars and have one of those when I want something sweet and I occasionally have 1 square of Ghiardelli Dark Chocolate which I keep behind a lot of frozen foods in the freezer. That makes me work to have to get to it and for me out of sight is out of mind.

Sorry to hear about your mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you!!

Sugar cravings are the worst! I still struggle with these cravings even though I began my weight loss program back in January. I find when I am under stress is when I crave it the most. I guess that's because I realize I am an emotional eater. What I have done to help with these cravings is to allow my self Popsicles, jello, or fruit. I know this doesn't sound as nice as a chocolate bar , but I also remember how great it felt when I weighed in and I was under 300 pounds for the first time in over 10 years that's what I use as my motivation. I also drink a lot of water absolutely no soda of any kind. I am told soda makes the cravings for sugar worse so I gave it up completely. I am sorry for what you are going through with your mom. It's tough I've been there too. Hang in there and be good to yourself. Don't focus too much on the bad try to find something good in each day that's what worked for me. Hope this helps. emoticon
