My Dad

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

My poor little Dad has been through the wringer this last year. I'm so sad. Today we have arranged for my father to be transported home where he will live out the rest of his life as peacefully as possible with the help of hospice. I am forever grateful to the caregivers at this hospital but I can honestly say I never want to see this place again.

My Dad has been a joy, a rock and an inspiration in my life for 48 years. He has lived to the fullest and now he wants to go. We are doing that for him because he deserves our respect. He will go quietly hopefully and with dignity surrounded by the people who have loved him.

I am sad but it is the right thing to do. I love you Dad. Thank you for being the very best role model.

My mom decided to enter hospice January 4. She was ready and passed away with a beautiful look on her face four days later. Hospice is such a good thing. The nurses led all of us through the process. We miss Mom terribly, but she was determined to take the final step, and my sisters and I supported her completely. She died with dignity and her sense of humor never left. You and your dad are making the right decision.
