As you may have noticed, I hang out over in the "Panic Button" message boards quite a bit. One of the most common panic posts comes in the form of...
"I gained 3-7 pounds since yesterday! I'm a complete failure! This isn't working for me! Someone HEELLLLLLLP!"
I swear. Someone posts that at least once a day. The answer is an obvious one. Unless they ate thousands and thousands of calories since yesterday, that weight is most likely all water. So, usually I just point out the obvious, that there's no way they could have gained three to seven pounds of fat in their sleep. We all laugh. Everything is fine until the next person posts the same exact cry for help.
This morning I woke up. I hopped on the scale....and BLAMMO! Three pounds gained over night.
"Seriously?!" I yelled at my scale.
It took me a good long minute to calm down enough to remember...it's just water weight. I ate nothing yesterday that could possibly have lead to me gaining three pounds of fat. In fact, I have increased the amount of exercise I get this week. So, I'm convinced that my body is simply adjusting to the greater activity.
(Still, it's incredibly demoralizing to see that three pounds back on my scale.)
