Week 12 Something New

While watching one of Chef Meg's videos, she introduced a product which I'd never seen before -- a tube of sun dried tomato paste -- and suggested it is useful when you need to thicken up a sauce a bit. I happened to see this in our local food co-op and decided I'd buy some and give it a try. On Sunday I threw together a dish using whole wheat penne pasta, grilled chicken, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and a little bit of chicken stock. I then added some of the tomato paste to thicken and give more flavor to the sauce. It tasted good, but I thought the tube was a bit expensive for the small amount. I probably won't buy it again, but just use regular tomato paste when I need it. With that said, it's now on to something new in Week 13 and I've already decided what I'll be tasting next!

    I use this sort of paste a lot but was told that you have to make sure you cook the paste thoroughly rather than just heating it up with the sauce. Now I add it whilst cooking the onions & garlic, works brilliantly.

    I prefer the sun dried tomato paste to the ordinary one MN, sometimes spending a little more to enjoy your food is an okay. Mind you they're not that expensive over here.

    Some of the "quick conveniences" are more expensive than the regular canned product. At least it tasted alright.
