Bye-Bye Gluten!

Monday, March 25, 2013

so if you can't already tell, I have decided to quit eating gluten. Well...for a while at least. I recently read a great article about gluten intolerance, and found that I have a lot of the symptoms. Now I'm not saying just because I have some symptoms that I have gluten intolerance, but I could and so for the next 30 days (29 now) I'm going to go gluten-free.

It's going to be difficult going without bread, pasta, and other things that surprising have wheat but I'm determined to see if it makes a difference. I'm not just doing this for the weight loss but also because it's supposed to help with heartburn , fatigue, digestive issues, and a lot of other things I am dealing with.

So wish me luck on this new journey, I will keep you updated on my progress!

I've been gluten free for about a month and a half now, and my appetite has massively shrunk. You'll have to let me know how it's going for you, but I'm really enjoying it. I crave fruit a LOT though, probably because my body wants some kind of sugars to replace the sugar it used to get through all the bread I ate :p But I agree with burnedevee: it's easier than you think. Just push through that first week! Good luck!

I've been doing gluten free for a couple of weeks now and it's really easier than you think! Don't worry about what you "can't" have and focus instead on adding, adding, adding. Add great (non gluten) grains like farro and quinoa, delicious fruits and vegetables, or pasta made from quinoa, buckwheat (a seed, not wheat!), or brown rice. Also, there are a whole host of vegan cookbooks and recipes out there that are absolutely delicious and have the added benefit of being (most of the time) gluten free as well.

And...almond milk is your friend (as long as it's the raw, unsweetened variety). It's the weirdest thing, but when I cut down on dairy, my cravings for anything gluten based went way, way down.

I have really terrible gastrointestinal issues and health problems (long story) and I can't express how much healthier I am eating this way! My doctors are also amazed that I'm in better health now than before I got sick.

GOOD LUCK! It's worth it!! emoticon

    Good luck!
I recently stopped eating cheese and I haven't had the digestive issues I was experiencing. Our bodies tell us SO much, we just need to listen.

Good idea! And it is possible to find replacements, pasta made with rice flour, for example. I'll be interested to hear if it helps you.

Cheers,
Kristin
