Already fighting...

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Monday, March 25, 2013

Yesterday was my first day with Sparkpeople and my first day trying to take my life and weight back in my hands and not in the hands of food. I made my ticker. I tracked my food and drank my water. I put down my weight as what I knew it last to be.... 245lb.

Well today I went to the doctors for shoulder pain. I got weighed and what I saw terrified me. 266lb. That is the heaviest I have ever weighed in my life. Granted I was wearing 4lb snow boots but still... 262lbs?! How have I gained almost 20lbs in a 2 months? This was discouraging because I have even further to go but motivating because I have all the more reason to work and fight for a healthy and fit life. On top of that, my doctor said I have bicep tendinitis in my right shoulder, a pulled muscle in my trap and possibly a torn rotator cuff. I am in pain. I am starting out my workouts with a damaged shoulder...

I want to wear cute clothes and fit in to calve high boots. I don't want to worry if a store is going to carry my pants size anymore. I want to NEED a new wardrobe and I want to make people double take. Not because I am gorgeous (which I really am), but because I have a NEW body. I can dream...

but it is time to stop wishing and start working!!

Encouragement will be needed but it's time for change.

    That darn Dr scale...

Glad you are here. You took the first step - for you and for a healthy life.

I've been dumbfounded that I gained 10 lbs since Christmas.
Dumbfounded? Well, I didn't think it would really matter, a little excess here, a little there, right?

Drat! Gonna buckle down and do it healthy. emoticon

You are most certainly in the right place, both in your thinking and being a part of SparkPeople! Seeing that scale in the doctors office has always been one of my most feared experiences. But with the help of SparkPeople encouragement and tips from coaches and helpful members, stepping on the scale this past month 3 times with 3 different doctors, was a "piece of cake"! I didn't even look, or ask! My scale is the only one I will be paying any attention to for the entire time it takes me to lose the weight I need to lose.

Good luck with your shoulder. I was just diagnosed with a small tear in the rotator cuff tendon. I was given an injection of cortisone and will be getting physical therapy for the next 6 weeks. I feel fortunate that surgery was not required at this time.

Stay strong and read the many, many success stories that SparkPeople has to offer. They will help to give you the inspiration needed to keep on your journey. The trip will be worth it!

emoticon Good Luck in your Spark Journey!

What a wonderful gift to encourage you to keep it going!! A thought for your shoulder. A massage therapist can help you work the muscles in the shoulder but you need to talk to them and find one that really knows the anatomy of the shoulder. I have a gal that keeps my rotator cuff loose and thus postponing possible surgery & keeps it painless. Worth a try!!

I am impressed- ( and a little jealous too) you just started and already have a popular blog post. And probably lots a friends now too...

At first I thought you were talking about a food scale. That is something I need to get because I think I am underestimating my amounts.

As far as the scale goes- it is ok to have and to check but REMEMBER it is only ONE way to measure your success. It doesn't always tell the truth either.

NSV (Non Scale Victories) are really the best. going down in inches is. Being able to get off of the floor a lot easier- comfortably sitting in a chair or your car or even better- A ride at the amusement park!
One of my NSV this winter was being able to crawl in through my back hatch of my car a lot easier than I did last year when it froze. :)

emoticon to Spark People I love the site- but the people on here are what make this place special! emoticon

YEA YOU! You can and will do this! As the saying goes if you fail to plan you plan to fail! I see you are making your plans! Make sure you follow your doctors advice as far as the correct exercises to do for your shoulder. That is also part of the planning process. I wish you well! It can be done. Remember, it may have taken you only 2 months to gain that 20 extra pounds but it will take you much longer to lose. Woo Hoo to you!

I agree with many of the posters here. Spark People has lots of great tools, info and tips. But the best help here is the encouragement and support of others who know what the journey looks like.

I also agree with one post that said take your measurements. The pounds may not change at times but the inches certainly can.

It is always so easy to see the scale go up, but it is a tough road to take it off! You are really on the right track! Sparks saved me! Remember to log and make smart choices, but more importantly, don't get frustrated when you have slip ups. Acknowlege, learn, and keep moving forward. The last thing I can tell you is one of the most frustrating things for me was plateaus!! They stink but try doing measurements too, because I went through a 2 month periood of only 2 pounds lost but I lost double digit inches!! Good luck!

I really thank you for sharing and being so open with how you feel, so great to see. I completely get it! I'm at 184 and it's the highest weight I have even been. I have no excuses, like I thought I did. I would say hormons, cold weather living in WA put on the sweats, and you will not realize how much weight you have gained until those jeans come out of the closet. I do no not look in mirrors in stores when trying on clothes, well only when their on. I don't want to go through this anymore. So I have been working out eating better, and really trying to take those baby steps, we all have to do to get to where we want to be. You will do it!! Sounds like your a beautiful person, and what a great support group you have right here.

Take care... emoticon
