Shoveling Snow for Cardio...

Grrr, it's almost APRIL and I spent my morning shoveling my driveway!!! I want spring!!! It is 4 weeks to my tri, and haven't completed a single brick workout yet. Blergggg, not cool. Also, the gym is closed today because ISU is closed for a snow day...which is totally unheard-of around here. When I told husband my school was closed today, he wanted me to check his office...they are open, of course. Sigh.

I did a great job on potluck food at the passion play this weekend! I stayed with my strategy of eating extra veggies and keeping away from the sweets, and I got through the doubleheader weekend pretty well.

My foot has been very bad this past week though, and I'm back to wearing the brace every day; even before I get out of bed, I put it on, or else I hobble to the bathroom like an old lady. But I ran on it last week and it felt okay; I do ibuprofen before I run, and ice right after, and it did fine. But 2 days later, I got a nasty cramp in the foot, in the middle of the night, and I jumped out of bed to stretch it out, and then passed out because my blood couldn't move fast enough. Then I felt sick and lightheaded all day. Husband thinks I am stressed, but I don't have much to stress about. I have felt fine ever since that day. I took a Tylenol PM the following night and slept like a ROCK and I have felt great ever since! I really think our sleep defines us. If I don't get the sleep I need, I can't function.

Anyway, I think I did pretty good on food this past week, and I just need to get the exercise going again. I shoveled the driveway for an hour this morning, and I really feel like that was enough...but it is ideal snowshoeing weather out there so I might do that later today. I have some homework to catch up on, and then I can get outside and have some fun. If I can't train for my tri, I can at least get out there and do SOMETHING, right?

    Sounds like you made the best of what you got, especially with the kids shovel! emoticon I agree sleep is so important! My weight is so much better when I stay on a good sleep schedule. I hope you got some snow shoeing in!

    Jillian Micheals had some nasty things to say about ibuprophin. You are a grown up and can make your own decisions but here are her thoughts: Ib stops inflamation. A little inflamation is good because its what causes your muscles to rebuild stronger. Food for thought certainly.

    Brick workouts = suckage, but there's nothing like them for going to the fire and realizing you can make it out. Next time you do a hard bike workout, schedule another 10 min and go straight out on a 10 min run afterwards. Try to land somewhere soft when you fall over during the transition.

    No I'm not kidding.

    I'm gearing up for a Du in 4 weeks. Soul sisters!

    We have been "blessed" with snow as well. Let us know how your Tri goes in a few weeks. Hopefully, the weather will start being more cooperative for your training.
