... with feeling!
I didn't fall asleep until about 1:00 AM. Tossing and turning. Then the clock went off at 5:00. I was confused when I woke up. It was not my room. Nor was it a hotel somewhere in the high plains.
Oh. Right! It was Dr Dani's house. Sweet.
I found my way downstairs to get dress for yet another race.
Dave reluctantly got up and drove us downtown where we caught a bus to the USS Lexington Memorial. The winds was whipping at about 25 knots. The spray off the Corpus Christi Bay felt like needles.
But when the horn went off for the Half Marathon the good Doctor and I took off together. We made a pact. If one of us felt too restrained he/she could take off with no guilt.
Incredibly, I felt like I had a lot of juice. I felt like I could run like crazy. I felt like I could set a new PR. Maybe even reach the magical 1:59:59.
But a promise is a promise. I ran with the good doctor. No grumbling.
We ran comfortable talking to each other, encouraging each other, pushing each other. It was great fun. Up the Bridge was not a killer. Down was like having wings on our feet.
And that wind was at our back. I told her at one point that we were on pace for a 2:20 something finish. She expected 2:45.
The we hit the turn around at mile 10.5. By then the wind had increased to 30 knots or more and we were running right into the teeth of it. At times we were reduced to a quick walk. Sometimes it was hard to stand even.
But we finished hand in hand at a very good 2:38:45. Much better than she had expected.
I am so proud of my daughter.
