Palm Sunday meditation

Sunday, March 24, 2013

This morning between a choir special of Hosannas and a worship song entitled We Will Overcome, I had to share a segue to connect them. Reflections of this week are sobering and difficult. I can't imagine His suffering, but I am thankful for Jesus and for His resurrection. Have a blessed holy week and that He loved me that much.
This is what I wrote to use today in worship.

That day in Jerusalem must have been somewhat like a modern day ticker-tape parade. So many people celebrating the LORD as he rode into town—not in a convertible but on a donkey, not with flying confetti and cheers but waving palm branches and shouts of Hosannas. Jesus was not fooled by this fickle crowd, not one little bit. He was there for a purpose. He knew what lay in store for Him that week and continued to teach His disciples. He tried to warn them concerning what was coming. They were clueless, but He had that covered too—He promised to send a Comforter, the Holy Spirit, to teach them and remind them of His words. He told them in spite of questions and troubles that come they should take heart. He said “I have overcome the world.”

Precious words of Jesus are recorded in John 17 as He prayed over his disciples for their unity and protection, but the good news for us today is found in verse 20.

20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,

His words are for us. He has overcome; and we too we will overcome . . . not by our strength, but by the blood of the Lamb.
