LOOKING FOR ANCESTORS!!!

Sunday, March 24, 2013

I have been working on my family tree off and on for about 3 years. The big obsession was to find my Irish, which I never did. I just want to try to further what I have on my tree and find some possible new relatives.

I found a cousin through a friend of mine, but the info she gave me, I had and I was able to give her some that she didnít have.

My tree goes back quit a few generations so I have a lot of different surnames what with all the grandmotherís maiden names.

I put a post on FB, but don't know how far out that will go.

To get the names Iím looking for I decided to do a blog and hopefully someone might know a name or two.

Surnames:
Leigh-----TenEyck----Leake--
---Ferguson---Knowles
Galloway-----Culp-----Arthur
----Caswell-----Warrick
Demarest---------Whitaker---
------Jones

These are all surnames.

Any name sound familiar?? I can give more indepth info if anyone has any connection to these names. Thanks

Don't know why the type isn't coming out the way I'm typing. I have 3 lines of names, but when I post it comes out different.

The hunt for ancestors is both fun and frustrating! Do you have any more relatives that might know something? More and more records are coming online. My sister has a subscription to Ancestry.com. Perhaps I could look up a name or two for you. Just shoot me the info via sparkmail.

OK, I can't help with any of those names (not on my German tree). However, I do have a suggestion. Have you tried contacting the Latter Day Saints. They have huge archives you can search. There are also some local sites to help with ancestry (as 2 of my friends used to volunteer at one that was local). It is open to all who would like to find more of their ancestors.

Hope that helps a bit.

Courti, you might try to focus on the 3 names you've got on your list that each have a 'middle' name, which looks like they are all surname 'middle' names, meaning... it's possible that TenEyck, Knowles, and Whitaker were the surnames of the family the wives came from. For example, Ferguson Knowles could have been named after the wife's father, with Jones for the surname. There is a Dutch 'Teneyck' family crest, so perhaps Leigh's mother came from there. Demarest is a surname too, so perhaps Demarest was named after a grandmother's maiden name, with Whitaker being the wife's maiden name. Just some suggestions to look into. Also, might want to try taking just the 1st two names of the 3 named ancestors for a 'root' of who those were, which could lead to a marriage of the last name.

Galloway is being used as a 1st name and is also a surname sooo... chances are, the wife's family is Galloway. Also... Galloway is a place in Scotland and when many came to this country, they'd be given a name that generally reflected the place they came from, sooo... chances are... your ancestor could of be _____ of Galloway, and was given the name Galloway, or the wife of Culp, named her child after her homeland.

Arthur Warrick (1699 - 1743) is found on ancestry.com. He was born in Somerset, Maryland, USA, and married Sarah Townsend. They had 9 children!! Anyway, one of his children (after a daughter, Anne) was also named Arthur, so it could lead to your Arthur, but I don't know what your time frame is on that. Anyway... I am going to email you some *stuff* that may or may not pan out!! ::hugs::

P.S. I am still *sick* emoticon but I'm getting better.

I've been doing a family tree also. One thing you might check are different spellings. I've found the surname of my maternal grandmother to be spell a couple of different ways. It's both excelarating and exasperating. LOL
