Mt Baker snow shoe to Artist's Point

Sunday, March 24, 2013

Today was perfect snow shoeing weather. I went with a group of 11, it was a beautiful crystaline white snow and a sunshiney day with no wind. Some of us, me included, got a touch of sun burn. We went to Artist's Point in the Mt Baker area

Starting out

Miles and miles of area to explore

Artist's Point on the horizon

Snow on the trees

Our destination, Artist's Point and the first two in our group to arrive

Lunch at the top

Fresh tracks coming down. We went around the back coming up and came down the face, so much fun. Jay in our group liked the down part, went back up again part way so he could come down again. In the fresh snow you can come down like riding a cloud

The scenery up there was stupendous

The whole trek was about 4 hours, 5 miles, 1800 feet elevation gain to the top, my fitbit gave me credit for 177 sets of stairs.

Wow that's a lot of floors on the fitbit! I love mine too. I love the pics too. Such a beautiful area. I live in southern New Mexico and we don't get much snow around here so I've never had a chance to go snowshoeing but I know it's got to be an amazing workout. I climb up and down a lot of hills hiking around my area. Right now it's in the 70's.

    How beautiful!
It does look like a lot of work, but well worth it.
You are so lucky to have friends to do this with.
