Today was such a down day for me. Not in a bummer sort of way. No, it was just , well, weird. Having run a half marathon Monday thru Friday, each day. Come Saturday to do nothing was odd. I even slept until almost noon. I (almost) NEVER do that. I can't recall the last time ... maybe Christmas day.
So no running today made me feel odd. Almost lazy.
But that's OK.
I run tomorrow. This trip has added three new states to my map: KS, CO, and NM. Blue is new states, yellow is states where I have multiple runs, red is states where I have run once. DC is not on the map. But it would be red.
I did my laundry from this week. I had more gear than non-gear darks and whites combines.
Good story from this week:
Wednesday night my son Mike called from LA.
"Dad, where are you?"
Lamar Colorado. Why?
"What are you doing there?'
Don't you follow me on Facebook? I'm running a half marathon tomorrow here.
"But ... I don't understand."
Five races, Five states, Five days.
"Did you just, like find these races on the Internet?"
No, son, it's a series. A challenge. A week long event.
"All the same people?"
Sure. It's a real road show. Like a circus. We run around a town park in our skivvies then blow town for the next place. Pretty cool.
"You're making friends then?"
(Cute, now my children are worried about me making friends.)
"What do you tell them about me?"
Nothing, Mike. It's not about you. It's all about me.
"Well what do you talk about?"
I don't know. I guess sh*t runners talk about. Negative splits. Shoes. What underwear doesn't chafe. You know. Runner sh*t.
"Sooo, it's like a cult."
Eh, more like a club.
"That's what all cult members say."
Say good night, Mike.
"Good night, Mike."
