Preparing for a 10K!

Saturday, March 23, 2013

WEll, now that my workout room is complete, it's just in time for me to really get going on preparing for the 10K that I signed up for in June!!!

I had been doing a TF rotation and had been mixing it with running, but now that the running is getting more intense... I'm going to have to stop doing the TF and concentrate on the running.

I'm not a runner, but 6 years ago, ran this same 10K... "The Bellin". I only ran it because my husband was going to quit smoking and loves running and was going to take up running and wanted to do it together. I started training in January, and he fell and broke his ankle in March. (no.. he didn't fall running... he slipped on some ice) I kept going since I had so much time invested and had paid my registration fee already. I actually started liking it somewhat. I never thought that would happen!! I loved early morning runs when I'd see wildlife... but can you imagine my surprise when a deer ran right towards me within 20 feet of me in the city!!! I tell you that took me by surprise!! Some lady got out of her car and asked if I saw that... well YES!!! I Did!! LOL!!

So, I ran the Bellin... a 10K in 1 hour and 13 mintues. Not bad for my first time ever running a race!!!

A friend asked me to run it this year with her...so I agreed. My goal... to beat my time!!!

I've decided after getting sick that I'm pushing myself too hard with doing Turbo Fire and the running because it's getting more intense... I'm following the c25k app and then graduating to the 10K app on my iphone.

I've decided that I'm going to focus on running until I complete my 10K and then I'll go back to my TF or TF/CE rotation.

I'm going to focus on running 3-4 days a week, and do a lighter cardio with some strength training on 2-3 days a week for a total of 5-6 days a week. I think that this will be more doable... especially since running is not my thing and I'm not so good at it. LOL.

I had my best run last Monday... running 3.2 miles at just under a 12 minute mile!!! I've been sick ever since with a terrible head cold, so I'm resting and hoping to get back to it Monday.

You can do it! I know that you can. You've got everything right in front of you to make it happen.
