Once again, I revisited a 5K course from last year. This was a rather hilly course - the first of the local school system's Trifecta. A long hill down at mile 1 and then back up again at mile 3! Not something to look forward to as I proceeded through the race course.
Last year's Lightning Strike was only my 2nd 5K ever. I remember dragging my sorry butt across the finish line and thinking I was ready to die! My time was 48:05. I came in 174th of 197 and 6th out of 8 in my age group. So here I was ready to go it again - at least it wasn't raining! About mile 1, my right glute started to hurt some so I walked more than I had intended. At mile 2, I felt pretty good. At mile 3, the hill loomed before me. My pace slacked off, but I still managed to make it across the finish line in 45:55. I was 162nd of 229 and 4th out of 7 in my age group. I was actually 4th by only 3 seconds...
I had wanted to be below 45 minutes, but considering the glute pain, I'll take it. Looking forward to the next 5K in the series which is substantially flatter.
Next weekend is the Run the Bluegrass Half Marathon. Stay tuned for exciting news as I blog on the race!
