So yesterday I decided to go for a little jog on a bike/walking trail not too far from my house. I had planned my route out in advance, from a particular parking lot to a small farm and park right off the trail. However, I had not calculated the distance to see exactly how long it would be. I used to bike this stretch all the time in about 20-25 minutes, so I approximated it might be something like 2 miles round trip. I didn't think this was completely out of hand.
I started off with a moderate jog, feeling at about an intensity level of maybe 5 (out of 10). I continued along at this pace, exerting myself maybe up to a 7 and reaching my destination in under 30 minutes. I cavorted with the ponies and sheep at the farm for a little while, taking in the bit of sun that decided to peak from behind the clouds. Then I turned around to make my way back. All in all, it was a great experience, exercising outside. Especially after being cooped up indoors most of the winter season. I will definitely add this to my fitness routine, at least on a weekly basis. And now that the weather is getting nicer in general, I'd like to make it a goal to exercise outside at least twice a week.
When I got home, I was super excited to use the Route Tracking tool to map my distance and calories burned. Turns out, I jogged 4.66 miles! That's basically a 7K! And at an average pace of almost 5mph (this is a lot, coming from a NON-runner) Holy cannoli, I didn't think I had it in me! So I'm totally going to pat myself on the back here (at the risk of being obnoxious)... I think this is quite a fitness victory!
Here's a few pictures from my outdoor excursion!
I love this sleepy pony... so peaceful
