Saturday morning

I worked a twelve-hour day yesterday on top of a very busy week. Yes, I didn't work on Thursday, but the visit from the landlord and the attendant clean-up was also a workout. So I was exhausted by the time I left work last night and oozed home. However, I was on the boss' "good list" when I left, so I'll take it.

A nice side effect of the landlord's visit is that the place is clean enough to have the blinds open for the first time in over a year. I've got the dining room blinds and window open so I'm getting sun and fresh air. Also, clean-up after breakfast has been a breeze. So I can relax with my knitting and TV without feeling guilty. All three of my guys are "visiting" today, so I'm happy about that.

I just finished breakfast. Most people looking at it would think I'm totally blowing my Weight Watchers, but I'm not. For a measly eight Points, I have a double serving of Irish oatmeal with two tablespoons of either honey or maple syrup and a quarter-cup of half and half. The half and half is the exact same points as a half-cup of milk, doesn't overflow the bowl, and just makes the dish SO good. It's hot, comforting, nutritious and totally satisfying. I refuse to apologize for a single component. After all, before this my weekend go-to breakfast was eggs (usually scrambled with cheese), way too much pork product and buttered toast. I'm guessing I'm going on a third to a half the calories and a LOT less fat for totally unbeatable comfort food. At some point I may cut back to half, but not for awhile. Right now my daily Points allowance is 56, so this isn't much of a dent in that. (Memo to self -- I'm almost out of Irish oatmeal. Time to get more.)

Meantime, I'm almost done with the last panel of my afghan, so today I'll be starting the joining and edging panels. With luck the afghan will be finished in another couple of weeks and I can start on another project. The yarn companies have been emailing me with their special offers but I've spent enough already. Besides I have a good-sized stash of yarn in my closet and I probably won't need to buy yarn for at least a year. No, wait... emoticon

Time to grab a quick shower. Bobby will be here soon (okay, I'll be watching Brunch at Bobby's) and the grocery delivery comes at eleven. Then I can chill out with my knitting. Ahhh...

    I LOVE steel cut oatmeal. A real rib sticker...and nutritious too! I've lately been on fruit smoothies first thing in the morning. All those fruits with their fabulous live sustaining enzymes are SOOO good for us. Then most lunches I'll fix a BIG bowl of chopped salad...tons of cucumbers, carrots, onions, tomatoes, parsley, avocado, blueberries, and whatever fresh veggie or fruit I have around. All of this fiber is sooo good for us and so low calorie we can really have as much as we want without calorie overload. I make my own tasty dressing so I don't worry about all the additives and chemicals in the ready mades. In fact I really CRAVE this homemade salad dressing. Healthy in a GOOD way! Continued success to you my are doing GREAT! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    I taped my cooking shows today and I'm watching them right now. I'll get to Bobby after a couple more shows. You are making great changes for yourself and it shows with your breakfast and how you are thinking about what you're eating and how many points.

    That sounds like a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. Your oatmeal sounds delicious! Just saw the recipe for rosemary-maple oats in Sparkrecipes, and I'm planning on trying it. I can eat oats in just about any way they're made!

    Went to the beach today. It got up to 86, so we had to shut the windows & put on the a/c. It's supposed to be 88 tomorrow!
Can you imagine? It's so HOT here in So. Fla., & other areas of the country are getting SNOW! THIS IS MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!111 emoticon

    Our Saturday has been filled with family so far. Thirty-nine years ago today, we had our first child.... a son. I know that time is somehow out of whack... I am not nearly old enough to have a 39 year old child. Then I had a great Skype with DS in Panama and then a great phone call from DD. In between watching tennis on TV!

    Oatmeal is my favorite breakfast. I've eaten it or muesli every morning for the past 3 years and haven't once gotten bored with it.

    Isn't it nice to be able to relax with the knitting without feeling guilty about other stuff not being done? And being able to sit with your boys is even better.
I can relate to the yarn dilemma...I just catalogued all of mine to do the April Stash Buster challenge with Pam, and I've got so much I can get rid of. We'll see how much actually goes away.
Can't wait to see pics of the afghan....

    Never feel guilty about starting the day with a nutritionally sound brekkie- more people lose weight and the weight stays off when you start the day right.
