5% Challenge Week 5

Wahoo! I lost 2 pounds this week. Nothing like being sick and miserable to pull off a nice weight loss. Really, even when diligent I usually lose about 2 pounds a month not a week. I just hope it doesn't magically reappear when I feel good.

Keep on Tracking: Our challenge this week is to track all meals and stay within calorie limits. This is probably the most important challenge of the whole shebang. Luckily for me I have been working on this since January 1. I resolved that I would track every day regardless of good day vs bad day. Historically I would track when I was being compliant to my plan but I would "forget" when I was eating off plan. I have not missed a day of tracking this year. I have had a handful of days when I didn't stay within my guidelines but tracking a bad day isn't as painful as I once thought.

One of the things I did to keep me on track was to open my tracker to a couple of friends. These friends don't share the same food philosophy as I do so I told them their job was to make sure I track, not to comment on my food choices. Since they are trusted friends they have been great about cheering me on or reminding me if I am slow to get my food choices in.

So fellow Sparkers: It is tedious, it is sometime embarrassing, but research clearly shows that writing down your intake makes you much more aware and contributes to weight loss.

    Tracking for me is a required step for weight loss. Exercise alone doesn't cut it. I still need to work on tracking on bad days. Keep up the good work & I hope you get to feeling better! emoticon

    Yes, 'tis true. I've been tracking since 1/6/13 pretty faithfully and have lost over 16 lbs.
