SAMUEL, FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF FAITH, Sat, 3/23/2013

1 Samuel 1:1-28
HANNAH: A WISE INVESTOR, Lesson 2b

SHE MADE A WISE INVESTMENT IN THE FAITH

It appears that family was important to Hannah, but it also appears that faith was very important to her as well. She made a wise investment in the faith.

Her Faith Was Personal - v. 10-11; 2:1-10 - In these verses, I see a woman who knows the Lord on a personal level. Her prayer and her praise. She had a personal relationship with the God of Israel. She was a believer and she was openly active in the practice of her faith.

Do you know the greatest gift you can give your family? The knowledge that you are saved! The greatest single investment you can make in life is that of investing in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ! Not just a casual brushing up against the things of God, but a real and vital relationship with Him that controls the way you live your life every single day! In other words, you need to be sure you are saved by grace and headed to Heaven! Nothing in time or eternity is as important as your personal relationship with Jesus Christ! Be sure you make that investment!

Her Faith Was Practical - v. 10-18 - Her prayer and her dialogue with Eli was practical. Hannah was a woman who possessed a practical faith in God! She didn’t just know about Him, she knew Him and she trusted Him for all her needs. She leaned upon Him and trusted Him for the impossibilities in her life. She didn’t just talk about faith in God, she fleshed it out by the way she lived.

Again, Hannah sets the standard that we should resolve to meet. Not only should we possess a testimony concerning our faith, but we must live out that testimony day by day as we go through life. Nothing makes an investment in the lives of others around us like a genuine life lived for the glory of God. A practical faith is a proclaiming faith and it always points others to Jesus Christ! Make an investment in a faith that you can live out day by day!

Her Faith Was Profound - v. 11, 20-23 - More than anything in the world Hannah wanted a child. She wanted to give that gift to her husband and she wanted to experience the fulfillment of motherhood. She knew this was impossible apart from the work of the Lord so she believed God for the impossible and promised God the incredible in return! She asked God for son and she promised to give that son back to the Lord for His glory!

Hannah’s was no superficial faith! She had a depth of faith that is rare in this world. What a blessing it is when we come to the place as investors in the faith where we can believe God for the impossible situations in our lives and willingly give everything to Him for His glory. That is the kind of faith God is looking to develop in you and me and that is the kind of faith God can use for His glory! Do you have it?

This kind of faith is always honored by the Lord, (v. 19-20).

TODAY’S VERSE!
Proverbs 3:5 (New International Version (NIV)

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;

TODAY’S HYMN!
“Leaning On The Everlasting Arm” By: E. A. Hoffman (1887)

1. What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Refrain:
Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

2. Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Refrain:

3. What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Refrain:

TODAY’S PRAYER!
Most Holy Father, Most Holy God! We praise You for through the law we died to the law so we might live to You our God. We are crucified with Christ by faith; so it is no longer we who live, but Christ living in us. We pray for all the saved in Christ, and for all the lost souls in this world. We pray that all will come to know You, Your power, Your strength and Your love that truly overcomes the evils and wickedness of this world. Allow our lives to be useful when filled by Your Spirit to show Christ living in us. These things we pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!

    Great lesson. hymn and prayer, Vic. Investing in the market can be a great loss of finances, but the greatest investment is in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ where there is only greatness and victory. Not one loss. Investing in our families that are saved or ones that are lost is great as well. Bringing one family member to God is the greatest love we can give them. Thank you for the goodie and note, Vic.

    Yes, some folks call it an investment, and some call it Karma. What ever one does in life surely comes back in many ways. (good or bad) I choose to do as much good investing as I can, that is why I like to substitute teach. I know this is not what gets us into Heaven, but it sure warms the heart.

    Amen again, Vic: "What a blessing it is when we come to the place as investors in the faith where we can believe God for the impossible situations in our lives and willingly give everything to Him for His glory." Nothing else matters...
"Only one life, 'twill soon be past,
Only what's done for Christ, will last."

    Thank you for the goodie, Vic. Hannah and wise investments should be a topic of interest for a wide array of beliefs. It is so hard to discern what others minds are fixed on. I know, I live meager, as you do, and yet when I talk about finances, people want to talk about money. As you, I am invested in the life of others, where I will never be a loser! Talk about Capital gains in the Kingdom of God-yes!
