So, I have been planning my meals for the next week. It is a lot harder than what I thought it would be. Plus, keeping track of carbs is new. While standing in line I looked at a candy bar and ONE candy bar had 30grams of carbs. Thats almost what I would eat in a meal!! Plus, add in all the sugar and calories it was actually close to a meal. I think the lowest I saw was 200 calories. Amazing what you learn about food when you take the time to read the label. Best bet will be staying on the outside of the grocery store- where most of the healthy food is. I may have to venture down the organic isle to find rolled oats and peanut butter & the canned food isle for fruits and veggies.
Right now, I am in a nutrition class and the teacher told us for the first time doctors and other health professionals want legislation passed limiting sugar and portion on food. I have mixed feelings about this. First i understand why it would be important, but the food companies do place on the label the nutritional value or lack there of. Should we, as people, not be repsonsible for our own decision to eat those chips or pick up the apple instead? Maybe better legislation should be passed mandating that junk food or overly processed food be more expensive than healthy food. That way people will choose the healthy food. Lets face it many people choose the less expensive of the two. Or why are they not passing legislation prohibiting steroid & hormone use in our foods? Who knows what unkown things are slipping through our body and making us sick because it is a foreign substance.
Anyway, tomorrow I will be getting a lot done. First I have work (oh joy), then stopping by the lab at my school to study for a little, then coming home and getting my workout on at the gym we have at the apartment building. Then MORE studying.
