I'd like to say that life has been so busy that I haven't been able to participate on Spark, but truthfully, I haven't been making my fitness much of a priority lately. I haven't gained any weight so I'm writing it off as a maintenance break and I'm gearing up to get rededicated to loss.
For those of you that have been following my roller derby progress. I became a Burning River Roller Girl at the end of January and have been skating with my league's farm team, The Pyromaniacs, since. I'll be skating in my first public bout this Saturday against the Border City Brawlers from Windsor. Super excited.
To add to my excitement, my league held a draft yesterday, and I was drafted to the Hellbombers! It's the team I was hoping for, though, I would have been grateful to anyone that took me on. :)
I had to change my derby name from Sarah Skinjob because our committee deemed it as "too vulgar" which amuses me since it's nothing vulgar, at all! I landed on Colonel Kurtz, like in Apocolypse Now because my last name is really Kurtz and it fits a military theme along with my number, N7. Plus, I can skate around screaming, "The horror!"
Anyway, if anyone has any pro-tips for my first bouting experience, please lay it on me. Also, I've been having some ouch in my right ankle - mostly friction related - and had purchased EZEEEFIT? ankle things. They seem to help avoid blisters but my ankle was a bit swollen after practice last night. HELP! I don't want to be injured just as I'm getting started!
