I can't "do" a result.
If I say, "I'm going to lose 5 pounds," it doesn't address the functions that make the pounds go away.
If I say, "I'm going to get on my exercise bike for 30 minutes," or, "I'm going to have a salad instead of macaroni and cheese," I will know, instantly, that I have kept my plans, and the sense of accomplishment will be rewarding.
The 5 pounds will go away in their own time. I hope "their own time" is within 3 weeks, in time for the Major Family Event for which I need 3 dressy outfits.
