One of my SP friends posted a comment on my first entry and sadly, I didn't see it until a few days later :-( God has a funny way of redirecting my attention back to things and what felt to me like an out of the blue thought, made me end up going back to the entry I posted about a month ago to see what I wrote.
Well I have lost 8 pounds so far over this past month and while I feel as if I could have done better (been stricter at times or exercised more) I pretty much love how everything has gone up to this point.
First of all, because of illness and stress my portion control box system didn't go exactly how I wanted it to go. I am currently no longer using them, but I also am also no longer cooking most of my meals. When I return to cooking meals, I will use the portion boxes again.
I started out with a strong clean eating mantra in my head and realized that for me, I have to build up my stock of tried and true recipes before I go gung-ho on it again. Spark People isn't necessarily about clean eating 100% of the time, maybe not even 50% of the time. I think it's about doing what you have to do to balance the calories, fat, carbs, and protein, and for me an extra goal of sodium during the day while doing it in the most healthy way possible in regards of what works for you.
For me right now, to alleviate some stress and disappointment of trying recipes and failing at them or just not liking them, I've come to relay more on prepackaged organic meals and SOME of the Lean Cuisine line. I read on Spark one time to look for prepackaged meals with less than 600mg of sodium or less per meal and I already know what to look for as a good amount of calories, carbs, and fat per prepackaged meal so that's what I do. Usually they are low on protein and fiber so with every lunch I have a serving of fresh or frozen fruit and with every dinner I add a serving of frozen veggies (never canned). Then I plan about three additional snacks in my day which allows for extra fruits, veggies, dairy, and whole grains. The snacks are simple so they don't really need to come from a box (unless it's whole grain crackers). I'm going to make it a goal for the next coming weeks to actually prepare at least 1 meal from scratch that will go for multiple days (using Spark recipes or other healthy recipes). That way I can slowly reincorporate cooking back into my life without making it stressful.
I've also been behind on entering my food into the food tracker. I entered everything yesterday, but for me the focus right now is on getting all the organic boxed foods actually entered and saved into my food tracker "Favorites" so I can grab from the same list later when I'm in a pinch.
Also, my Body Media armband (which is a truly AMAZING device that I should talk about in a later blog) has a feature to sync the foods charted with Spark People that you ate from a particular day into the Body Media Activity Manager so that you can see the true calorie deficit you have for the day (Calories Consumed minus Calories Burned =a lovely calorie deficit :-) ) So with that being said, I def. have some motivation to get completely right with the Spark People Food Tracker so that I can "push" all that information to my Body Media arm band and make this process even less of a daily mystery HEHEHE.
I've also started exercising since beginning Spark People :-) I have me a great time with Zumba at home, Just Dance and Dance Central for the Kinect, Dance Dance Revolution, as well as my latest purchase, a rebounder :-) I've had so much fun jumping up and down and I feel the burn in my legs lol
I really need to go to the gym though because I have a membership that I'm currently wasting and I really do miss working out on the elliptical and doing the weight machines. But with all my "toys" at home, I don't see that happening till the summer when It's 90 degrees in my apartment (no air conditioning) and I finally cave and go to the gym for free air conditioning and an awesome workout :-P
With all that being said, I really do wanna make video blogs (don't give up on me) . If I get my lazy butt off of my computer chair, do laundry, and take a shower maybe I'll actually want to show my face LOL.
