Today, I was determined to finish painting the hallway so we could put all the paint stuff back in the garage until next winter. So, I turned up some tunes, picked up a brush and moved the ladder into the hallway.
I painted and I listened to the music. The Bellamy Brothers, Charlie Daniels Band, Marshall Tucker Band, Amazing Rhythm Aces..... Song after song.
Before long, I found myself transported back to 1976 to a time, just before my life took a shocking turn and I found myself dumped on the front steps of the School of Hard Knocks.
The thoughts, perceptions and calculations of that naive 24 year old girl I once was (still wet behind the ears, as dad used to say) came rushing back to me.
Oh, those memories! The emotions! What those songs meant to me back then. I had no clue where the road I was on would take me. . . . and what was just around the next bend.
Before long, the hallway was painted. But what a trip down memory lane.
In many ways, I'm still that girl.
I'm thankful for my upbringing. I am thankful for the era in which I was raised.
I'm thankful for that spark inside of me that kept me on my feet.
I've learned a lot. I am still learning. I have a lot more to learn.
I am thankful for the music in me.
And I'm really thankful that I can once again dance to the music --
and burn up a whole lot of calories!!!!!
