Hi! My name is Rebecca but everyone calls me Becky. I am thirty-one years old as of this past November and have currently decided to go vegan. Not very many people in my life know I have made this decision yet as it is still quite new. Some people might be curiouse as to why I have decided to make this change in my life so here is a few of my reasons. The reason I started looking into it is because of my nutrition class and some information I came across. The first thing that cought my attention was that vegans had better cholesterol levels than those who consume meat. As I did further research I found that some people that have had CVD have actually regained their health by converting to a vegan lifestyle. Then I read how going vegan may prevent cancer and diabetes. I don't know if these effets are from the food that vegans consume or if it is because of what they do not consume but comming from a family that has cancer, CVD, and diabetes on both my father and mother's sides and seeing the pain and destruction that these diseases cause I want to do all I can to prevent it. Currently it looks as if I am on the road to these diseases and so I am trying to run the other way. I am currently concidered obese and need to lose about 100 lbs at least but I am able to do this and I will. I have a wonderful husband and son to live for and I have too many things on my bucket list I am not able to do unless I reach my goals. So you might be thinking is that all her reasons? Honestly it isn't. I love animals and I think we live in a beautiful world and I want to do all I can to protect and preserve them. If the Lord tarries I want future generations to see how beautiful this place is and I want to pass on values of appreciation to my kids and someday grandkids. I am not psycho or anything about my decision and I will not force it on others. I live in a house with two omnivores and still cook for them and love them dearly. I believe it should be an individuals own decision, I do not believe in forcing this choice on anyone. It is not hard for me to not eat meat as I have never truely cared for it. I actually practiced vegtetarianism for a little over a year before to help out a friend who had been diagnosed with cancer. She was advised not to eat meat. She did not stick with it but I did and loved it. You may ask why I went back and the answer is I was young and just wanted to see if I could do it. I found out I could and then I chose to eat meat again. Things I would like to include on this blog are photo's, some of my favorite recipes, and my life experiences as the days progress. I hope you will enjoy comming along with me on my journey and I would appreciate any feedback you would like to give. I pray you have a blessed and beautiful day! Talk to you soon. =)

Welcome! It is nice to meet you. My name is Tahirih and I am 45 years old. I am a teacher and like you I had about 100 lbs to lose. I have lost 18 so far. Also like you, when I was in my 30's I was headed toward diabetes, but I didn't think it would happen to me. Denial is not a good thing. I was diagnosed with it when I was 41. I have been able to control it fairly well, but I have to get the rest of this weight off and regain my health. I have found Sparkpeople to be very helpful on this journey. I hope it will help you too.
