An unexpected day off

Thursday, March 21, 2013

I came home to a notice from the landlord last night that they're inspecting the place today. It's not just me -- they're conducting what they call "annual inspections" of all the apartments. Mind you, I've lived here three and a half years and this is the first "annual" inspection in all that time. Whatever -- they call it a 24-hour notice but by law they can say that they stuck the notice on the door at 9AM and if you didn't see it until 6 PM because you were at work, it's not their problem. So I hauled tail last night and this morning to get the place ready. Right now I'd love to take a shower but I don't dare because as sure as I do, they'll show up at that exact moment. So I have to wait until they're gone.

However, the up-side is that the place is at least mostly clean (we shall discuss the state of the bedroom closet later). And I'm getting in some quality knitting time on the afghan I'm working on.

(Update -- they just left. They were here a grand total of ninety seconds, checked the batteries in the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and left.)

Okay, so now I have a mostly clean home and the inspection is over and I don't have to worry about it any more. But I'm exhausted from the work I did, which is more exertion than I'm used to. But at least I actually have the dining room blinds open.

Sorry to hear you're exhausted, but good to hear that the apartment is much cleaner now! Now, rest up and enjoy the rest of the day.

It is nice to get our home clean. But I really hate when I have to do it so quickly as someone comes over. Glad that it all turned out well.

If we look for it something good usually results from our most difficult times. You now have an environment with less clutter, and are closer to completing your afghan. emoticon

Yes I get them every 9-12 months. I kill myself cleaning (because I keep telling myself I have time) and then like you said they're only there for a couple of minutes, LOL! I usually get a couple of weeks noticed and can change it only once.

When they installed a carbon monoxide detector it was a 24 hour notice but I said who cares and let the guy in that same day. Guys don't care and it was better than stressing about it for another day:)

A clean home almost makes up for the shortness of notice! It's a good thing that you can count it as your fitness points. emoticon
