My mom mentioned that she noticed that I don't sweat as much in my workouts as I used to. The reason this may be relevant is that I have been retaining a lot of water lately. I have no idea why. She said that she noticed about a year and a half ago. Well, last year I had a back injury for 8 weeks. I got and was laid off from a new job. I traveled for several weeks twice. I broke a finger and then later a toe. I also contracted a bacterial infection which has proven to be somewhat antibiotic resistant. It raised my heart rate, my blood pressure, and made me feel extremely tired. The antibiotics did their normal routine on my digestion system. So, I had to recover from that as well as the infection. The HMO monkeyed with my birth control and switched it to a generic which caused me to gain 9 lbs in 5 days. I have also had the flu (a mild version.) I have put on 20 pounds in less than 4 months due to all of this. So, now I'm battling strange water weight gain. I guess what I'm saying is that I have to take what my Mom had to say into consideration. I do appreciate what she had to say because I had lowered my intensity of my workouts when everybody online said that women had been working out harder than they needed to about 2 years ago. Maybe there is something to this. Maybe I'm not working out as hard as I was and the consequence is the weight gain?
I do know that I do best with 60 to 90 minutes of cardio 5 days a week. I need to have yoga at least two times a week. I need to focus my calories on healthy fats, the volume of my diet on fruits/veggies, and I need to watch my carbs and protein. Not all people do well with excess protein. My kidneys don't appreciate it. Thats how I got into trouble a couple of years ago, I tried 'Protein Power' which is not compatible with my body. My kidneys developed an infection, they put me on antibiotics which trashed my GI tract, I ended up unable to hardly eat for 18 months. I slowly found herbs that helped heal my body (marshmallow root for mucus to coat the GI tract, triphala to heal the villi.) I did not lose or gain weight at that time. Then I went on a 1600 calorie a day diet for 4 months. I ate on a set schedule, I had 4 meals of 400 calories. I weighed my food. I did cardio every other day. At that time I had only gained 4 lbs from the medication. I did not lose any, but I did not gain. I did get extremely cold, I was hungry all the time, and I felt like crud.
After that debacle, I got frustrated and angry because I felt like doing all the right stuff made me feel like crud and I was always hungry and I wasn't losing weight. I got mad at the world. I stopped doing everything. I had an unfortunate run in with an earthquake. I fell up the stairs carrying food up to my mother (she has Lupus, arthritis, and a sclerosis spot.) I hurt my knees and both feet badly. I went up to 187 lbs with being off my feet and heeling.
Then, I got a back injury last year. I earned it moving boxes during tax season. I went up to 193.
Then, I got a great job. But, I started using a protein powder because it was the only thing I could eat fast enough on my 10 min. breaks. I put on more weight with it. I went up to 200. I lost my job, I was laid off.
I went for several trips. I worked out everyday. I ate salads. I still gained weight. Then, my bacterial infection reared its ugly little head. The doctor told me that I had a bug bite that caused it. The first round of antibiotics only worked for a week and a half. I didn't gain any weight.
The second round of antibiotics co-incided with my new birth control generic drug substitute. Its not the same as the regular. I put on 9 lbs. I was so mad. I stopped it right away emailed my doctor and made her give me the old one. It costs 60 dollars more. blasted HMOs.
In the beginning of this year I got stuck with months of household repairs. That totally interfered with my ability to cook, workout, and sleep. It was very stressful. I worked like a little dog.
I have finally within the last week gotten a new job. Its an inspection job for a college. I hope to get paid this time. The last time I did a job they didn't even pay me but I don't have the money to sue them. The irony.
So, fast forward to my 35 th birthday and since my lowest weight of 176 over 3 years ago now, I have gained 36 lbs. I don't really know what to do about it. I'm not happy about. I am going back to weighing my food, I will be eating 1200 to 1300 calories day, increasing my cardio both intensity and duration, and making sure I get at least 2 hours of yoga every week. I'm exhausted, I just want to rest. But, I won't.
