The Gaggle

Thursday, March 21, 2013

I read an interesting article today and wanted to share a thought with you. This article was about the reason geese fly in the V formation. The geese face less wind resistance and conserve energy. The geese in back receive a boost from the ones flying out front. The geese farther back need less energy in flight.

Another benefit to the V formation is that it makes it easier to keep track of every bird in the group. When a goose is tired and drops out, one or two other fly down with it keeping it company until it is ready to resume the flight. The geese are keeping a close eye on the gaggle (group).

A gaggle, could be compared to a group of friends. We need each other. We need encouragement, advice, recognition, even laughter. We need to take care of our gaggle (group).

Being on Spark People is like this to me. We keep each other posted on our achievements, ask for help and advice when we run into trouble and most certainly we enjoy laughter (mostly at ourselves) and in general we find all the support we need to be successful in growing healthier.

Good words! One of my favorite pastor friends has a "favorite" sermon (ie, I've heard it more than once in different mission trip locations emoticon ) about geese and the v-formation. He draws several similar points from the illustration.
So I say, "Tell it, Sister!"
