Time for a New (and Improved) Budget

Thursday, March 21, 2013

Okay, some of you know I will be going back to being a stay at home mom in a couple months which I am BEYOND THRILLED about!

Well, with that change comes an opportunity to evaluate our finances and make sure we're handling them wisely. I can see that I've been careless from time to time about sticking to our budget, but that's a luxury I can't afford once I make the big leap back home. It's frustrating as I seek to be a good steward of all God's entrusted to me, that I don't often enough exercise's eerily similar to weight loss, isn't it? So I've been trying to organize things better (part of my BL challenge).

What I've learned is that..
-With some better meal planning we can get the grocery budget under better control.
-We will have to cut back to eating out as a family to only 1 time a month.
-Yes, I do indeed think the kids' sports/activities are non-negotiable parts of the budget.
-We have to plan for all our irregular expenses (thanks, Mary Hunt) or they will screw up our monthly budget every time. It's so hard to think long term sometimes when you just want some debts gone ASAP.

I think we've come up with a good workable budget that thinks long-term. DH helped me tweak it once I had the "rough draft" done. I'm sure it will need to be tweaked further once we actually implement it (hopefully in May) but it feels good to have a plan. I'm convinced once I'm home full time again (and with a LOT of help from God), I will be able to be even more thrifty and find more ways to use what we have wisely as well as getting rid of all our excess.

    emoticon Hello Victorious Friend!

Congratulations for this honor! Whatever you do in The Hands of God WILL prosper! That Prayer in Ephesians 1:16-23 is great to pray everyday. "That He may grant unto you a Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation in the Knowledge of Him, the eyes of your Understanding be enlightened that we may know what is the Hope of His calling..." I'm sure you're familiar with this Scripture. That's talking about the Spirit of seeing and knowing! Put it ALL in His hands for HE is your Shepherd, you have EVERYTHING you need. Just wanted to encourage you in that. emoticon
emoticon for Sparking by my blog and leaving such beautiful words. I appreciate your time and your friendship! Have A Glorious day!

Yep, we did the Dave Ramsey class last year. I appreciate the tools...we've been using them on and off for over a year. I'm just saying we're doing a total budget overhaul with this big change and it was helpful to read Mary Hunt as another budgeting advice voice.
