Free Food At Dollar Tree!

Thursday, March 21, 2013

So I saved money again yesterday after I ran some quick errands after my dentist appt. My husband was home in time to take my daughter to her favorite book club at the library and so since I was already uptown, I did some grocery shopping.

I went by Dollar Tree and ended up using 9 coupons there. They have been taking coupons for a little while now (I think they started last year) and I ended up getting these huge El Montery burritos for FREE since my coupons were for $1 off any product made by them. emoticon

They also had Tony's pizza that I had coupons for as well that I bought. Yes, I realize this is not healthy food, but these are small individual pizzas and although I don't eat them, my husband would buy the kids Pizza Hut or some other product and not use a coupon. Therefore, I sometimes buy things like that for them.

They also had Oiknos (Stonyfield) frozen yogurt. I had no coupons but couldn't believe they had that there!

I did buy plenty of healthy food at Sam's Club such as organic Pink Lady apple slices, strawberries, Romaine lettuce, almond butter, cage-free eggs, etc. Hopefully I redeemed myself, LOL.

One thing I have been noticing is that my local Sam's Club now offers more organic produce, which is awesome! They even carry quinoa now, so they are definitely improving and I feel I get more from my membership.

Doug - I'm so impressed by you making your own cleaners. If I didn't get mine so cheaply, I would do the same. Of course I'm sure yours are more earth-friendly due to the ingredients in them (such as vinegar, baking soda, etc.).

We had a homeschool Mom's Night Out once and a member showed us how she made her own homemade detergent (which I also saw on Pinterest since I'm addicted to that site, LOL).

I haven't made it yet because I have stockpiled laundry detergent that I got very cheap and have to use all that up first, LOL.

Kroger has quit their double coupon program here, so getting harder and harder to get the deals I use to. I started making my own laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, and household cleaner. Can make it cheaper than I can buy it.

Doug - I hope that your DT stores take them. They take them at all the stores in my area so hopefully it is U.S. state-wide. It's hard to believe that a dollar store would take coupons as they are cheap enough, LOL.

BamaJam - You are very welcome. I live in NC but would think that all Dollar Trees take coupons, but can't verify for sure that they all do.

Sandy - Sam's Club requires a membership, but my local store seems to be improving in the food category.

Regarding Dollar Tree, I find the larger stores are better because they carry frozen foods and a larger selection of foods. I have found many name brand foods there and they let you use coupons on top of that, so win-win!

I have never shopped at either of these stores but maybe I will give them a try. I like it when I see stores offering a better variety of food choices. It always seems that the stuff that is on sale is just that, stuff. Have a great day.
