Huge Salt Setback!

Thursday, March 21, 2013

Had a hard day, so stopped off for Japanese food for dinner. Plain rice (ok), edamame (definately ok), appetizer size gyoza (somewhat ok-at least it wasn't the dinner size!), BUT THEN had extra soy sauce and poured my leftover gyoza sauce on the rice as well! Squishy sloshy blimpy tomorrow, here I come!

Rene, I try to limit my salt intake. I'm glad you don't beat yourself up over it. I've never liked foods that are too saly, but it's in everything. I'm salt sensitive, so I get edema with even small amounts. I don't have high blood pressure, as it has always been low. I read labels on everything, but it's added to foods that don't need it. Salt overpowers the natural taste of foods when it's mixed in to so many foods, but it is a flavor enhancer when I can just add a few sprinkles on top. I'm thankful that some companies are leaving the salt out. Eden foods has canned beans without salt. Even with limiting my salt intake and not adding it to foods, I still end with too much salt. I read labels and buy foods without added salt or only small amounts, and I buy fresh foods as much as possible. The result is that my foods taste better, and the packaged processed foods taste like chemicals to me. emoticon

    You live, you learn!

Good on you for not beating yourself up over the choice you made. You picked yourself up, dusted yourself off, and are moving on.

Hopefully you can eat foods lower in salt over the next couple days and drink your water - maybe a couple extra glasses?

I wish you much success on your journey.

:/ I am still trying to learn about salt and incorporate less salt into my eating plan. Do you find that salt really effects you that much? Do you have any tips or tricks you could share to avoid salt?
