I have thought about the advice I have been given and I compiled a list of the changes I have made over the years.
15 years ago (when I met my husband) I was 235 pounds, living pay cheque to pay cheque, usually in overdraft. I would stop ot KFC and buy a huge meal and live on that for a few days, then a pizza, then chinese food. a case of beer every weekend.
Within five years I had lost 60 pounds. Was out of debt. Another five years and I had a house, a truck, a dirt bike, an ATV and a dog. Oh yeah and planning a wedding.
The changes I have made with my diet, when I look back are great.
Over time I have gone from
white bread to homemade, whole grain bread, english muffins and bagels.
white rice to brown rice, quinoa, barley and spelt
white flour pasta to spaghetti squash
whole fat peanut butter to peanuts only butter
fast food 4 - 5 times a week to Subway 1 - 2 times a month
hating beans to a whole shelf of beans in my pantry
Ice cream almost every day (even for breakfast) to special occasions only
whole milk to 1%. Went to skim but went back up.
a case of beer every weekend AND going out Fri. and Sat. to..well... not so often
planned binges to....well... not planned but still happen sometimes
canned veggies to growing my own
Dinking cola to drinking club soda and water
Hating fish to fish being on the menu 2 times a week
Same old Same old to buying a new food every trip to Superstore
Regular ground beef to local friend farm lean beef
Regular eggs to Free Range Omega eggs
from sugar to local honey ( from 2 blocks away) for sweetener
Wow that is quite a list! I guess I have come a long way. With more practice and more education I will keep going. Still feeling discouraged at this point but maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If I stay focused and make it a priority then I will make this list longer.
Thank you again for the support and advice. I really feel like I can talk about things here and not be judged. Maybe because it's not face to face. Anyway it means alot to have this available to people who need it.
