Another "Two Appointment Day" yesterday

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Yesterday was another two appointment day for me. It could not be helped. Both my oncologist and pain specialist are only in town on Tuesdays. I could not skip chemo this week because I had last week off. I tried to change the time of my pain clinic appointment to next week instead or at least later in the day, but my doctor was all booked up until May and I could not wait that long. I managed ok though. My chemo was at 9am and I was the first appointment of the day, so I got in fairly quickly, My nurse knew I had my pain clinic appointment at 11:15am so she made sure the lab got my blood work processed ASAP. I finished up that clinic with plenty of time to spare to get to the pain clinic on the other side of town.

I had injections in both hips, and my lower back. Also my left shoulder. My mom took me to chemo and dropped me off at the pain clinic; so that she wouldn't have to sit there and wait so long, (the pain clinic gives sedatives before the injections, and they won't give them to you if you don't have someone to drive you home), my best friend came and waited out in the waiting room for me to take me home. The sedatives made me very sleepy, as usual. I wasn't hurting that bad though, because anesthetics are injected before the pain medications.
I got home at 2pm, I immediately put kibble in both kitties bowls and then I put my pajamas on and went to bed. I wasn't even in bed 1 minute before they joined me; I think they felt I could use some comforting since I am not usually in bed during the middle of the day. I slept on and off til 5pm, by that time, the sedatives and anesthetics were wearing off and my shoulder and left hip were really hurting. I stayed up til about midnight, taking it easy, just lounging in bed either reading or watching tv. I woke up around 6am this morning with my shoulder really hurting.

Sometimes, the injections make my pain a little worse for a few days before it gets better, and in my shoulder, the injection goes right into the joint. Besides the pain, I have a good sized bruise there too. I took a pain pill at 9am, and then again at 2pm, but they are not helping much today. Hip (the "bad" one on the left side) was doing ok up until around 1:30pm. I decided to skip my workout today, and give my joints at least a day to rest.

It's the first day of Spring, but winter is hanging on here. Still quite a bit of snow on the ground here, and we've had snow flurries on and off throughout the day. I remember last year, around this time, it was much warmer than normal; I even had to run my air conditioning a few times when the temps reached nearly 80F.

emoticon One of the best things about my joint injections is seeing the friends who take me home. I hope that you are feeling better soon. I had facet injections today and they thought it would bring immediate relief but not so yet. Looking forward to them bringing the relief soon. emoticon and emoticon

I think after getting shots in your joints that you earned a day off from your workout! I think the 1st day of spring is just a tease, they are calling for snow here the next day or so....we have only had snow twice the whole winter and it was only a light covering. Now that spring is supposed to be here it will probably snow knee deep to a 10 foot Indian!

It's wonderful that you have people to take you to these appointments and that the offices were understanding that you had a difficult day. So glad you have your furbabies to cuddle with! I hope you're feeling less pain in a few days; until then take it easy. A few days break isn't a bad thing.

What a long, grueling day you had, Shari - I can't imagine enduring such difficult treatments in the space of just one day, though given the schedule constraints and binds involved, it was your only feasible option. So glad Mom was able to help out, too. I hope some of that desired relief might set in soon... I can only imagine how welcome it will be! What bizarre weather we have had - down here in VA, too, although the erratic temperatures are a little more moderate than they are up your way. Little daffodils here and there - what a welcome sight! Those little signs are so comforting and uplifting...and I can imagine what comfort your kitties bring you. Feel better soon... emoticon

Oh my, you are such a brave lady.....I can't imagine the pain that you have to endure. Even tougher with both appointments in one day. Glad your Mom was there to help you.

Love the background on your page....Your kitties knew you needed some snuggling, and it is amazing how our animals know, and are aways there for us.

Feel better, and think Spring. emoticon emoticon

I am so sorry to read you had a really rough day yesterday. So thankful you had your Mom and good friend to help you out with transportation issues. I had those shots in my shoulder and the pain was so terrible so at least with that I know how bad you hurt. My heart goes out to you dearest friend. You have gone through so much but you keep on going . I am so proud of you Shari. Winter is hanging on some here too. Sunny but still quite cold. Our cats are in the windows basking in the sun. Their fur gets quite toasty. Then of course they need a drink out of the kitchen faucet! What buggers they are. lol. So glad yours were there to bring you much need comfort. Healing Hugs. Pat

You have been in my thoughts and prayers - such a sweetheart. Wish I had a magic

Big hug.
