GREAT FOOD AND FLAT TIRES

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

So, today is my birthday, but we went out last night to celebrate. Dad's dialysis is Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, so I didn't want him to be too fatigued to enjoy the night, plus The Big Guy was off, so he could join us. We went to Nico's Pier 38. I decided that I was going to eat what sounded good, and not worry about the calories. I ate a moderate breakfast and a light lunch, so I had just over 1000 calories available to me for dinner. I had pan seared marlin over seafood rice pilaf with a beurre blanc sauce and broccolini and young carrots. It was SOOOOO good! I savored every bite, and did it with out an ounce of guilt. I even had mango passion fruit cheesecake. I did search the food data base for similar items and entered them on my food tracker. With what I found, I still did not go over my calories, so at the most, I am probably only over by no more that 200. I had a great time with my family, ate a a place Guy Fieri recommended on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, and I refuse to let my one special night be ruined fretting over calories and fat grams.

That said, I knew that I would have to be extra careful to get my exercise in. So I set out this morning for Makaha beach. I checked my bike and made sure I didn't have any loose nuts, added air to my tires and set off. I was doing great, about 45 minutes or so in to a planned 90 minute ride, I started to hear a ticking sound, I was a little concerned, but wanted to wait until I was at a better place to check things out. Then my rear wheel feels like it's wobbling, I can't wait to check. I stop and look down, and the first thing I see is my tire is flat. On closer inspection, this is what I saw: That is a large fishhook. So my ride ended before I was ready. Luckily, I had my bus pass with me, so I was able to get home with out walking 4 miles.

Oh, Here is what I bought with my birthday money. The Helmet was going to be my 20 lbs gone reward, but it was on sale this week, so I got it early. The Yurbuds work great. The waffle iron has a portion cup for batter and a channel to catch drip overs. I make yeast waffles, and filling the waffle iron can be tricky, plus it was on sale> emoticon

Happy Sparking !

You did great at the restaurant. You are right - we shouldn't worry about calories when it's our birthday dinner!!! We have to party sometimes! Still, you chose good foods, and you didn't go over your calories at all or at least not by much.
That stinks about the fish hook, and I hope you can get your tire fixed in a jiffy so you can keep on riding.
