Spring Focus

It's finally starting to show signs of spring in my neck of the woods. The daffodils, tulips and crocus are peeking out. The maple trees are starting to bud. And it's a muddy, rainy mess where the temps can be anywhere from 30 to 65 all in the same day.

Looking to summer, I've come up with some goals to supplement my current monthly goals and give me a little push through the spring months.

Goal 1: Daily Meditation - This is new ground for me. I want to slow myself down and take some time to breathe and just BE. I'm armed with some Oprah meditations and a meditation app on my phone (seems wrong doesn't it? LOL!) . I want to start with 10 minutes per day. I'm not sure if I'll move myself past the 10 minutes per day right now. The most important part of this goal for me is frequency.

Goal 2: Cook more - And by this I mean cook more special meals and the occasional dessert. I have many cookbooks that I love but I noticed I stopped cooking recipes. I've been focused on eating cleaner and as a result, my meals tend to be the same protein and veggies each day. Nothing that takes any time or real creativity. The fact is, I miss cooking and spending relaxed time in the kitchen. Now I'm armed with healthy recipes and several ideas that support my lifestyle change and long-term goals.

Goal 3: Positive Affirmations - Each day I will say something positive about myself TO myself. I tend to get wrapped up in how far I've got to go and what I haven't yet done that my self-talk becomes somewhat negative at times. I am a positive person with overwhelming optimism when it comes to most things. I need to apply this to myself.

Goal 4: Trust the process and stay the course - I'm so impatient when it comes to weight loss. If I don't see results (on the scale) immediately, I start researching other ideas and trends. I don't believe in fad diets but I do get it in my head I must be doing something wrong or the changes I am making "aren't for me". When in reality, the changes I'm making are good, solid changes. They may not change me overnight but they will make a difference if I am persistent and consistent.

Goal 5: Water - Ok. So this is one of my monthly goals too. I don't do awful at this but really want to increase it to a higher level. I have found the more I drink, the better I feel. Simple enough.

Here's to saying goodbye to winter and embracing the renewal of spring!

    Forever the motivator and inspirer, thank you, just when I can't get my thoughts together, I come by to your blog and you set me off to do something. I love your goals, and have been thinking about meditation as well...for me to a small extent, my morning devotions were my meditation and kick off to a day - now I seem to be doing less and less of that, its good to get a reminder of the simple things in life that can help you - I guess its always true what they say - its not rocket science - but its all about how much and how far one is willing to go and take to the next level!

    Same here with the weather!!!!!!!!! Today I was almost wishing it weren't 60 degrees because I'm not ready to take off my jacket/sweater. P.S. Love that you have a meditation app on your phone. I'm going to look that up too. I should really do the positive affirmations. I have been talking very badly to myself lately.

    I love meditation and I've used many meditation tapes that helped me. One of the ones that I really liked was the meditation CD that came with Paul McKenna's book I Can Make You Thin. The book is worth reading too - I still use his basic formula of:

    Eat when you are hungry
    Eat what you want
    Savor every bite (that's the important part)
    Quit when you are full.

    Check your library and see if they have it. You might really love it.

    Excellent goals. I too, need to work on number 3. Here's a super simple affirmation to try. Stick this on your mirror and say it to yourself twice a day.

    "I accept myself unconditionally, right now."

    I'll be doing it too, working on saying it twice a day for one month, starting tomorrow. Keep on sparking!

    I have to agree that #3 and #4 are my downfalls too! I finally stopped the fad diet crap but it still slips in my head and I'll end up online looking for stuff to realize that it's all bogus and I wasted my time. I need to trust that I am doing the right thing and that all the hard work will pay off in time. It took 12 years to put it on, it's going to take more that 12 days to take it off :)

    Lucky you seeing some signs of spring...here we have a snow storm this morning and it is soooo cold still.....it has been a long winter.... emoticon

    I can relate to needing to cook more and use the recipe books....I tend to get stuck on the same foods that I am comfortable with....and after 3 or 4 months they all get a little boring and may be why I tend to stray at that point...so getting out those recipe books and trying some new things may be helpful!! emoticon

    These are amazing goals & so are you (Amazing that is) I have problems sticking with #3 and feel #4 all the time. I know that you will succeed as you have such a great (contagious) attitude & I love it and you for it.

    Great goals! I agree with #4 for me. I want it to happen now. It is so hard when you do everything right and the scale does not agree. Those are the days you need to dig deep and look for other things that have changed besides the scale. I wish you the best of luck on reaching all of your goals!

    I tried meditation and was terrible at it in the beginning. My mind just ran away with a million thoughts and I never could quite get back to calm. It took persistence and trying out different methods of meditation to finally find Qi Gong which has worked wonders for me. So if at first it doesn't work, stick with it! #3 is such a great goal! Hope you are successful, emoticon
