This Post Isn't About Me But About My Baby Brother Who Has Had An Amazing Journey (115 pounds)

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

After reading so many blog post here it got me thinking we never know who is really watching us while we are struggling on this journey and how notice all of the hard work we are doing. When may end up inspiring someone else to take the first steps on this crazy & wonderful journey.

My brother will be turning 50 tomorrow the big 5 0 - He has struggle with his weight his whole life He was an extremely overweight teen and it just gradual got worst. He has had some success in the past but it never lasted. He was watching me on my journey then all of sudden he purchased an elliptical for his home use and then a total gym to use. Still not comfortable to join a gym. 4 or 5 years ago his PCP told him he really needed to lose weight he had all kinds of health issue and that he would die at a very young age if he didn't do something. In his case better late then never.

When he was 7 years old he sustained an head injury at school which limited his physical activity he was never allowed ot take part in gym class.

This was an early picture right before the accident (Me the blond cousin Marge and Michael around 1967 there about)

Michael started stated this journey early part of 2011 and has done an amazing job he started at 269 pounds for the pas year he has maintained his weight at 154 (he's 5'7") lost over 42 % his body weight. went from a 46 inch waist to a 30 inch waist. Most of his medicines have been done away with. Last year was to exercise regularly was his goal this year is to eat healthier He was never a person for freggies but he now eat a big salad ever day for lunch and he skips the junk food 90% of the time. I do have ot admit he has had a much more successful journey then I have with weight. He truly inspires me to keep pushing forward.

This is the before:

This is the now

Funny thing is when this school year started his boss / supervisor told him he had ot get another work photo ID as he lost so much weight and other people he worked with did not recognize him with all the weight loss. I am sure he is inspiring other to tackle this journey He would tell you that you must be doing this journey for yourself and no one else.

A woman's been cutting my hair for 20 years. Last week she revealed that she didn't know who I was. Now, I've lost 111 lbs, but she still must also be experiencing some dementia. emoticon

It feels good.

Congratulations to your brother. emoticon

How wonderful!! Thanks for sharing your brother's story. Warmed my heart. My husband, most of my kids, and a lot of my extended family deal with the same issues I do. I've gone through phases where I tried to control their eating and activity habits. It always ended in them being angry at me, me being stressed, and then failure. I've given up. I've released them. I'm just focusing on me. But I do pray and hope that my quiet example will encourage change in some of them. I'd love to do this journey with them. What an inspirational story of your quiet journal and how you sparked your brother. Thanks for sharing!!

Linda no wonder you are really proud! He is inspiring!

I agree with him the journey has to be for ourselves, I have been doing it for me too, even with my horrid horrid cold there was no sweeties that were going to make me feel better so I chose to keep following my eating plan and it has paid off this week.
