Nutritionist and Goals

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Last Friday I went to the Dr and I thought I was meeting with a nutritionist but it was just a consult with a NP first who then will refer me to the nutritionist. I talked with the NP and she was awesome! I’ve been struggling with finding a good Dr and I’m happy I went somewhere else because she was so understanding and straightforward. Exactly what I need. She talked about how the clinic is a wellness center and they want to do preventative stuff as well, which I’m all about! She set up a fasting lab for me next week so I’ll be doing that and then the following week we’ll go over the results. The last Dr I saw I had to fight for this so it’s a step in the right direction.

She referred me to the nutritionist who called me to set up an initial appointment. I have a call with her this Thursday to go over my goals. She’s in a different town and said we’ll do things over the phone or can skype. I don’t know how I feel about that but I’m willing to give it a try. I’m starting to think about goals and how I want her to best help me. Its difficult when I think I have so much to work on. One of the things I need help with is goal setting (oddly enough).

I’ve been thinking of setting up goals and rewards for some time. I’ve been sticking to my plan (eating within my calorie range 6 days a week, exercising at least 10 mins per day and eating 5 fruits or veggies a day) and I want to reward myself to keep going. After two weeks I got my nails done which was great because I was proud I stuck with it for two weeks and, well, getting your nails done is awesome and something I rarely do for myself. In the past I have these big complex goals which I never achieve so I need help there.

Once I get some guidance, I’d like to incorporate rewards. Here are some I’m thinking about: buying a UV light for my nails so I can do my own at home, cast-iron skillet, buying the supplies for one of the million do it yourself projects I have on pinterest, getting a new book, decorating item for my apartment, painting something at the painted pot and buying a plant all come to mind.

Now that I have the rewards, I just need help setting up the goals. Can’t wait to talk to her this Thursday!

I hope your talk goes really well! I think instead of just a phone call you should Skype her once and awhile. That way you get to see her and she gets to see you. It feels better to me to be able to see the person I am talking to on the phone or computer!!I even Skyped a friend across town yesterday! Have an awesome day. I hope you can think of goals to set. Just make sure they are measurable and specific. Like...I will walk for 20 minutes 4 days a week. (Just an example.) Good luck! Angie emoticon

I'm glad that you have found a wellness team to help you.

If you can Skype, that would probably be better than the phone, at least in the beginning. That way you can read one another's body language and facial expressions to get more information from the meeting.

I presume I don't need to remind you to bring your notes and have writing stuff ready for taking notes. Recording the meeting might be a good idea.

Good luck and congratulations on how well you are doing lately.
