I Feel Like I'm Going in Circles on Maintenance

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

OK, so I've only been on maintenance for a while, but I just can't seem to figure it all out. I'm eating more and exercising more (since I currently have the time). I feel like it's all evened out. Unfortunately the scale doesn't agree. So others told me not to add too much food right away, to start slowly. I'm doing that, and it's still not helping. It's making me wonder if I should bother with maintenance or not. I just feel stuck and don't know what to do.

Check out for some information on calories for maintenance! I agree with with Vtricia said. I do that myself when I am just taking a break or on vacation. Have done calorie cycling off and works! emoticon

Actually, it's only been a couple of weeks. the first few weeks of being in maintenance will be something of a science experiment. You're going to have to try different things that help you find the right balance of food and exercise.

I know it's very confusing, but with time... things do sort themselves out. So, don't worry. this really is normal. You just need a bit more time to find what combination works best for you.

This really is a learning experience.

First of all, please don't give up! Maintenance can seem hard to master at first, but it is possible. What exactly is the problem? Are you going up or down? Think about starting a thread on the maintenance team outlining what you're doing and why you feel as though your results aren't matching your expectations. I'm sure there are lots of other people who have been in your situation who can lend a helping hand, so please don't feel discouraged and definitely don't be afraid to ask for help.

Maybe you need to change your exercise routine. Are you challenging yourself?. Good luck.

    What exactly is the problem?

Are you still losing weight? Are you gaining?

I did calorie cycling, where I took what should be my calorie need for a day. 2 or 3 days a week I ate the maintenance level, and the days in between I ate like I was in weight loss. People do this for other reasons like building muscle or whatever, but I found it helped me learn how to eat in maintenance without being afraid I would gain weight. It seems like it should be easy to eat more calories, but it's a mental game, if that makes sense. If you tell yourself you can eat more, your brain is like OKAY!

I've never been in maintenance, but I've heard a few things from others, mainly to give yourself a weight range to stay in. When you get to the high end, cut your calories back down until you get to the low end.
