We re-watched the modern family classic movie, Secondhand Lions, written and directed by Tim McCanlies, last night, about a little boy who was dumped on his great uncles by his terrible, lying, scheming mother so that he could find their supposed great treasure.
Michael Caine and Robert Duvall play the elderly uncles with mysterious pasts, while Haley Joel Osment plays the boy.
Quirky and funny, and very Texan, Secondhand Lions is character and dialogue driven, and it's easy to miss the jewels that come out of the characters' mouths.
I enjoyed it last night as much as I did the first time I saw it several years ago... it's not very Hollywood-ish, and that's part of its charm, just like the other Tim McCanlies project I adore, Dancer, Texas pop.81.
I'm a Tim McCanlies groupie, I guess... anything that has his name on it I'm prepared to like...
Are you familiar with these two movies?
