So as many of you know already, I have a thrift store success story. Hubby and I went out to basically find a long leather coat I could use to add accessories to my new Renaissance Faire costume that I'm building.
Without further adieu, I'd like to introduce you to the corset I will be purchasing.
No it's not historically accurate but I've never been particularly worried about that.
I will be getting it in this fabric:
For accent colors, I'm going with shades of green, since I'm working on a huntress/ranger type costume. Unfortunately you aren't allowed to carry any weapons at the Faire, so I won't be able to include them. Not even a bow. =( I don't own one anyway. BUT I will be taking photos at home with a pair of daggers I have. My leather accents will be black.
I got an XL women's leather trenchcoat from Goodwill for $12.99, and the sleeves are the perfect size for boot covers. I just have to give them some nice edging at the top, since the bottom seam is the cuff of the coat and doesn't need hemming or anything! As I was removing the first sleeve from the coat, I snapped the seam ripper!!! I didn't even know that was possible! So now I need to buy a new seam ripper, which is no problem since they're super cheap. I'm going to use the rest of the coat to make bracers and hip pouches for carrying my stuff around.
I also got the perfect colored tablecloth from Village Thrift. It was marked $3.90 but that color tag was on sale so I paid $0.70!!! I don't have to cut it either, it will wrap perfectly around my head and shoulders, so I can actually USE it as a tablecloth next year. I'm so excited!
On top of that, the lb of water weight plus some came off by this morning, so I'm down to 196.4. Right on track to make 190 by my birthday.
I also got a 10 lb dumbbell and lifting gloves! I feel like a real badass now! =)
I am pumped, and I can do this!!!
