Day at the zoo
Monday, March 18, 2013
Today was a great day. The little guy and I are on spring break and hubby is off on Mondays so we went to the zoo. This is quite an undertaking since the nearest zoo is over an hour away. It's a pretty small zoo, but we hit every single exhibit. The weather was perfect and there was hardly anyone else there.
We packed a healthy picnic lunch and had the best of intentions. The wind picked up as we were leaving the last exhibit and by the time we walked out of the gates we knew that eating outside wasn't going to be an option. Think paper plates, carrots and peanut butter sandwiches flying around ala Wizard of Oz. It was either eat in the car or stop somewhere. We chose the stop somewhere option and ended up at Taco Bell. Even without tracking I can tell you that we totally overdid it. Partly because by that time it was after 2 o'clock, partly because we never get Taco Bell, but mostly because we (hubby & I) are just glutinous pigs.
Still - over 12,000 steps today so that's good. I do think it's funny that my fitbit tracked me as having 75 flights of stairs today after "cheating" me out of minutes yesterday. I took it off and set it in the console on the way home and all the ups and downs in the roads apparently set off it's elevation sensor. The steps didn't rack up between leaving the zoo and home, just the stairs.
Tomorrow will be housework and packing. Either tomorrow night or Wednesday morning the little guy and I are off to my folks' for a few days. I can't say I'm looking forward to the prep, the drive, or the cleanup afterwards but I really am looking forward to spending a few day with my parents. Plus there will be shopping at places I just don't have access to where I live.
